Age Suitability

Regular, weekly classes are usually aimed at children over 2 years, with 3 years being a popular age to start classes. Recurring events such as Baby Loves Disco are suitable from 6 months plus.

What your child will do

Dance, dance, dance! With the rising number of dance musicals being portrayed on TV and the big screen, disco classes are fast becoming increasingly popular with preschoolers and there is no reason why your baby shouldn’t get in on the act too.

The level of structure and activities in the session depends on whether your baby is attending a class or an event. At an event, the structure is likely to be minimal as there is more of a ‘party’ atmosphere. The venue will be packed with lots of different sections where you can take your child to be occupied including the main dance area, chill-out zones offering books and puzzles, face-painting, soft play, ball pits and a healthy snack bar. Nappy changing stations are also provided.

In contrast, a baby disco class will follow a set routine, as the aim is to teach a particular style of dance to the children. As most children have acquired their basic gross motor skills by the age of 3 (including standing up, running, hopping, jumping and other basic movements) this is usually the best time to start formal classes as your child will then get the most enjoyment and fun out of a session.

How will your baby benefit

Baby disco classes and events help your baby to develop an appreciation for music and how to respond to music using their bodies. For younger babies this may include simple bouncing whilst sitting on your lap and they may need to follow your lead. A great selling point for parents is that the music used during the classes and events are genuine grown-up music tracks and club classics rather than the usual round of nursery rhymes.

A big benefit of attending a baby disco event in particular is that it allows baby and mum (or dad) to do an enjoyable activity together at whatever pace suits you best. Baby Loves Disco offers regular disco party events for babies and toddlers which is great for getting your baby or toddler used to socialising and mixing with other babies of his own age or slightly older. An added benefit of a Baby Loves Disco event or similar is that if you have other children aged 7 or under, you can also take them along, making for an all-round family outing.

Likely Cost

Classes cost around £5 - £10 per class depending on your location. Events cost approximately £8 for an individual ticket (there are usually deals for family tickets). For Baby Loves Disco events, walking babies and parents are normally charged an entry fee that includes snacks and juice, whilst non-walking babies enter for free.
