Baby born in pub car park

A mum has given birth in a pub car park after being unable to reach hospital in time.

He’s a long way off being allowed to buy a pint but that didn’t stop one newborn deciding to spend his first moments of life in a pub car park.

The newborn emerged before his mother managed to reach hospital and was delivered at the Seven Stars, in Cannock Road, Brocton by punters enjoying a drink.

A midwife and ambulance crew were also on hand to help the 35-year-old through the birth along with her partner.

According to the West Midlands Ambulance Service, both mother and baby, who was born just 20 minutes after ambulance was called, are fit and well.

Speaking to the BBC, Emergency Medical Technician, Sue Pearce, said: "This is only my second delivery but my crew mate, Paramedic Patrick Griffin, has delivered quite a few babies but it's the first time either of us have delivered one in a pub car park.

"I am sure the locals will have been raising a glass in the young man's honour."

The last few months have seen a number of British babies being born in odd places including a tube station and a post office!
