Woman makes miraculous recovery
A woman has said the sound of her baby’s voice helped to pull her out of the induced coma she was in after contracting E. coli.Karen Morrisroe-Clutton, 32, from Wrexham, revealed her husband Paul played tapes of their baby to her in the hope of bringing her round.
Karen was affected by the bug when her son Oliver was just 10 weeks old. She is thought to have contracted it from a fish restaurant and spent weeks in hospital in a critical condition.“I did know I was dying at one point, because I was having all this treatment and it wasn’t working,” she revealed. “I gave up. I wanted to die. But then I heard Ollie and I turned around and thought I need to live. I heard him and thankfully I pulled through.”Karen wasn’t allowed to see Oliver for eight weeks while she was in intensive care because of the risk of infection, but she said the reunion made the wait all the more worthwhile. “He did remember me. He sort of gave me a look and then this massive smile came. It was just wonderful.”Her consultant, Stuart Robertson, had been desperate to reunite the pair to speed up Karen’s recovery. She is now back at home after her 67-day stay in hospital and is “almost” back to normal after suffering seizures and kidney failure during her ordeal.
