You'll just need think about whether you'll have access to things like electricity (maybe not if you're camping), and specific equipment like a microwave. And even if you're not sure - there are options that should have you covered.

There are 3 really good bits of kit you might want to think about for sterilising bottles while you're travelling:

  • microwave steam sterilisers
  • cold water sterilisers
  • steriliser bags.

Take a look below and see which option might work best for wherever you're going.

Microwave steam sterilisers

Taking up much less space than electric sterilisers, and handy if you are staying at a villa or cottage where you know there is a microwave to hand, microwave steam sterilisers are usually very compact.

More like this

You fill it with bottles, add a little water, and then put it in your microwave. These usually take about 3 minutes and ones like the Closer to Nature version from Tommee Tippee costs around £19.99.

Cold water sterilisers

These work by adding sterilising tablets or liquid to water, in a special bucket or steriliser. Nowadays, many are designed to drain easily so you don't have to hold a heavy, water-filled container over the sink after use. Sterilising with this process usually takes about 30 minutes.

These are really useful if you're going camping or travelling somewhere where you don't know if you'll have easy access to electricity.

The above-mentioned Closer To Nature steriliser can be used in a microwave or with cold water, which gives you brilliant flexibility. So if you're not sure what options you'll have in terms of electricity until you get where you're going, this could be a really good option.

Bag sterilisers

A less heavy/bulky option for travel are bag sterilisers. If you know you'll only have the option of cold water sterilising when travelling, Boots do steriliser bags that come with sterilising tablets, which take 30 minutes and which keep a bottle sterile for 24 hours. They cost £9.99 for a 7-day supply of bags.

Microwave steriliser bags like those from Medela are super handy too if a microwave will be an option for you. A pack of 5 bags costs around 12.99 and they will be ready in 3 minutes.

Note also that each bag can be used up to 20 times - so you'll get 100 uses out of a pack, which will last you a fair few trips away ?
