Huge numbers of babies hurt themselves every year in cot accidents, finds new report
Despite safety guidelines and constant improvements, cot and playpen accidents are still reaching 10,000 each year in the US, according to a new report in the journal Pediatrics.
The most common age for injury was toddlers between 1 and 2 years old. They were most likely to hurt themselves by falling, as they are likely to be active enough to try and climb out of their cot.
The study did state that recent safety measures such as the US ban on drop-side cots should reduce the number of injuries. However, here in the UK the Baby Products Association did not recommend a similar ban on such cots.
