After struggling to conceive, proud actress shows off her 3-month-old babies Freddie and Edie
Albert Square actress Jo Joyner appeared on This Morning yesterday armed with her “miracle” twins ready to take on her new role – a mum! Introducing her adorable 3-month-old twins Freddie and Edie, the 31-year-old actress spoke about her heartache after being told she’d never conceive naturally after four years of trying and how she opted for an alternative method of IVF.
“It is very scary and it's quite sad. You kind of have a mourning period for the route you thought you might take,” she told This Morning. “All the natural things you take for granted. So you just have to kind of go, all right, that's not our way.”
Jo and her husband Neil Madden turned to IVF, in particular the ICSI (intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection) method, which works by injecting a single sperm directly into an egg. The couple were thrilled when Jo found out she was pregnant 12 days after the eggs were implanted. “We’re very lucky. It’s a miracle really,” she beamed.
Eager to show off her bonnie babies, the EastEnders favourite revealed the reason why she was so keen to talk about her fertility struggles. “When we first found out we were going to have IVF I was constantly searching through the press and the media. I could only find scientific stuff,” Jo explained. “I really wanted to hear positive news. I just really wanted someone to go, ‘It's all right. It doesn't mean you'll never have kids. It is possible.’”
