"I am so proud and excited to announce the birth of our daughter Harper Seven Beckham. She weighed a healthy 7lb and 10oz.

"Victoria is doing really well and her brothers are delighted to have a baby sister."

A friend of the couple said she looks just like Victoria as a little girl, and brought (an already emotional) David to tears when she was born.

So why Harper Seven?

According to The Sun, a friend of the couple in LA explained Victoria and David simply love the name Harper. "It has no hidden meaning - they just fell for the name and think it has a lovely sound.”

According to US reports, Victoria likes it as it’s an old English surname, which apparently was given to someone who played or made harps.

The most well-known Harper is the author (Harper Lee) of the much-loved book To Kill A Mockingbird. However, Harper Lee was the author’s surname, her full name was actually Nelle Harper Lee.

Harper is in fact a fairly common name in the States. Then there’s Harper’s Bazaar, the fashion glossy in which Victoria has appeared many times.

Harper Beckham’s unusual second name is easier to find links to. Beckham played as Number 7 for both Manchester United and Englandand has the roman numerals for 7 (VII) tattooed on his right arm.

Victoria also gave birth at 7.55pm in the seventh month of the year. Seven is also deemed to be a spiritual and lucky number.

However, it’s also the title (Se7en) of a particularly dark movie starring Brad Pitt about the seven deadly sins.

The Beckhams aren’t the first couple to like the idea of Seven as a baby name. Take a look at this clip from an episode of American comedy Seinfeld in 1996.
