The Grammy award winning singer said that her 2-year-old son Egypt inspired her to create tools for children, and now she’s launching her own app for kids.

The mum-of-one produced music for the interactive iOS app, “The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee”, which is released today on the App Store for £2.49.

The app centres around the relationship between a young New York city girl and her wise grandmother, and is allegedly loosely based around Alicia’s relationship with her own grandmother.

“It’s a new adventure for me, and I am really enjoying it,” Alicia said.

“It does remind me of my world,” she explained. “The piano, the journal, music’s a big part of my life, the city, and all that.”

The first-time mum revealed that Egypt played a big part in inspiring the creation of the app.

“I was just getting introduced to the kind of TV shows and the DVDs and all the things you start kind of introducing your kids to, and I though how cool it would be to be part of something that really allows them to hear music from different places, different cultures, different sounds,” she said. “That’s what we are able to do with this.”

The app is described as an "immersive storytelling experience" that will appeal to children as well as fans of the singer.

"Explore a richly detailed 3D room; listen to music written and performed by Alicia Keys within the Music Box; play your own songs on the virtual piano; answer 365 Daily Challenges in a private journal; draw masterpieces using a wide selection of colors and brushes in the virtual journal”, explains its App Store listing.

The superstar singer also opened up about her role as a mother and her life with her son, according to Celebrity Baby Scoop.

“He’s the best collaboration I’ve ever done, he’s the best song I ever wrote, the best experience I’ve ever had, the best show I’ve ever performed. He’s the best of everything.
