Pregnant Konnie tells MFM she’s due in six weeks, hasn’t bought a thing, yet is still planning her next two kids
Mum-to-be Konnie Huq is taking a new approach to preparing for the arrival of her first baby…by not buying a thing. With six weeks to go, Konnie seems unruffled. She tells MFM, “I’ve kind of been a bit of a hermit in the last trimester!” Konnie, who was at The Baby Show on Friday without partner Charlie Brooker, admits, “We honestly haven’t bought anything.” Perhaps the ex-Blue Peter presenter is hoping someone’s going to say, “Here’s a nursery I made earlier”?! Konnie’s relaxed approach to pre-baby shopping doesn’t extend to future baby plans. The first-time mum-to-be has already started thinking about having more kids. “I do like big families,” the presenter says, cheekily adding, “Watch this space.” Patience is something Konnie happily admits she lacks, saying she couldn’t wait to find out the sex of their baby. The mum-to-be hopes it’ll please her parents that she’s having a boy, as they had three girls. While Konnie says she fears she won’t know what to do when the baby arrives, she says Charlie’s been keeping her on the straight and narrow. “I keep forgetting all the what you can and can’t eat rules! Charlie has been really strict about all that!” Perhaps Charlie will have to be relied on to do the shopping too… Preparing for your baby’s arrival? These are the must-haves.
I think there are certain things you need to be aware of and buy - or get somehow. Car seat to get home from hospital, if you're having your baby at hospital. Babygrows and newborn nappies. Nursing bra. special pads for post-birth bleeding. a place for your baby to sleep. a pram or baby carrier maybe. You need to know that it's handy to buy these early and not just expect to pop out as soon as your labour's over and pick these up at your local!
We agree you needn't be spending excessively before your baby arrives (or even after) and are always on the hunt for ways to save mums some cash. It's important to be aware of the things you'll need for your baby's arrival - especially as babies don't always get the memo about your due date! However, we know it's just as crucial for mums-to-be to know the things that can be left off the checklist to ensure the budget isn't blown.
This is one of the reasons why we created triple-checked baby preparation lists covering the essentials baby items, the very handy but not essential items, and products you can do without. We often call these 'buying' or 'shopping' checklists, knowing 'buying' and 'shopping' can be firsthand, secondhand or through friends passing things on. We known preloved baby gear can be a real budget-saver, and so have published practical secondhand buying advice for mums and mum-to-be.
We hope these make all the pre-birth prep easier, especially for any first-timers!
