Not content with her busy schedule as a TV presenter, Marks & Spencer model and mum-of-one, Myleene Klass has taken on a new (and less glamorous) role – as a midwife.
As part of the upcoming This Morning’s Baby Club, 35-year-old Myleene puts on her overalls and joined the midwifery team at The Whittington Hospital in Holloway, North London. Experiencing life as a midwife, the celeb mum described her time in the maternity ward to the Daily Mail.
“As soon as I arrived, I was handed a set of scrubs – as the baggy overalls are known – and got on with it. I’d been there just an hour when one mum in labour vomited all over me,” Myleene recalled.
“Some mums are in terrible pain, some are scared, some seem to sail through it – no two women are the same in labour,” Myleene said. “One screamed in agony, another called out for her mum. We had one woman where the dad was showing her photographs of their honeymoon to help her cope with the pain.”
However, despite the job not being as glam as her other roles, it clearly made an impression on the TV presenter. “When I think of all the kids out there who want to be TV presenters or pop stars, I want them to realise that there’s another fantastic career here in the hospital – one that makes a real difference to people’s lives and is more worthwhile than almost anything else.”
Myleene also revealed that the midwife experience made her broody! “I confess my time in the birthing suite made me feel broody – my daughter has just turned 3 and I clearly remember the surge of love that hit me when I first held her.”
Myleene’s midwife stint is set to be screened in September on ITV – could it be her next career move? “I think if I ever had to have a career change, I’d want to become a midwife. I can’t think of anything that would give such satisfaction. I can’t wait to go back.”
If Myleene helped deliver your baby, we’d love to know!
