'Breastapo' or 'breastfeeding Nazi' as tearms are all very well and good, but only if people start to acknowledge that there is a 'Formula Stasi'. I've never felt pressured into breastfeeding, but from the day after having my son, I've had midwives, health visitors and relatives going on at me to give formula. Like many I topped up, but felt bullied into it by health professionals telling me 'I didn't have enough milk', even though top ups can just exacerbate the problem. It took three months, and meeting a lovely, gentle lactation consultant - not a 'Nazi' - before I could finally EBF.
I don't think in reality either exist, and a lot of it is perception, and women's own disappointment that whatever they've chosen is not accepted or supported by others, but at least acknowledge that it happens on both sides.
