Spice Girl says Rihanna is bad role model for girls

Mum-of-one and former Spice Girl Mel C says singer is too sexy and "inappropriate" for young fans

The issue of little girls growing up too quickly and being exposed to sexualised images is in the headlines again, and this time it's former Spice Girl and mum-of-one Mel C talking about it.

Melanie Chisholm has said she feels singer Rihanna, 24, is being too sexual for her young fans and that she should tone it down.

"People have to take some responsibility because we've got to a point where over-sexualisation of young children has gone too far," said Mel C, reports the Mirror.

Talking about Rihanna's provocative stage performances, image and often raunchy lyrics, Mel said, "I think music is a big part of that. Women in music, very successful women, are extremely sexual and they have young fans. It is inappropriate."

"It's reached a saturation point, we owe it to our kids to protect them," Mel continued.

Mel, who found fame as Sporty Spice in the Spice Girls, is all too familiar with strutting her stuff on stage. However she says the Spice Girls did it with care and respect of their younger fans. "We always sat down as a group, be it in photoshoots, videos, interviews, and if somebody felt something was inappropriate for our young fans, we did something about it," Mel said.

However, Mel also made it clear that she was a fan of Rihanna and wasn't picking on her for no reason. "For the record. I am a big fan of Rihanna. But I am also a mother," Mel later tweeted.

Do you think Rihanna is too saucy for her young fans?
