Forget Olivia and Jack - it looks like parents are seeking inspiration from unusual baby name choices and taking the lead from celebrity parents... and the Middleton family!
In 2010, baby name choices were all about traditional monikers, with Olivia and Jack topping the name charts. However, this year, parents are seeking more unusual baby names and it looks like they are taking inspiration from our favourite celebrity parents.
According to Nameberry.com, who monitored their readers' baby name choices, the top baby name for little girls in 2011 is Pippa and for boys, the name Asher.
The top girls' name choice is being linked to royal wedding fever after Kate Middleton's sister Pippa as interestingly, Pippa didn't appear in the 2010 top baby names list. The boys' top baby name, Asher, knocked Henry off the top spot and is a biblical name meaning 'happy blessing'.
Other top ranking baby names include Elula, which celeb couple Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen chose for their second daughter, as well as Arlo, which is the same name as Natasha Kaplinsky's son, and Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom's son's name Flynn.
Could we witnessing the end of traditional baby names and a new breed of celebrity-inspired names with hidden meanings?
