MadeForMums is all about making life as a parent easier and more fun. Our aim is to make our site the best place to find and share reassuring, friendly, useful, parent-sourced info and support.
How do I join? And what's in it for me?
MadeForMums is free to join: just sign up here. Once you're a signed-up member, you're able to post on our discussion boards, enter our competitions and opt (or not) to receive our email newsletters, weaning guides, member offers and partner offers. We won't send you stuff you haven't requested and we won't share your details without your permission.
I'm not a mum. Can I still join?
Of course! Lots of MFMers are mums but many others are pregnant or trying for a baby. And we welcome dads, dads-to-be, grandparents, grandparents-to-be – anyone with an interest in sharing useful parenting stuff.
I've forgotten my password. What do I do?
Panic not. As long as you know the email address you used to sign up to MadeForMums, you can request a password reset.
I've changed my email address? How do I update my details?
You can update your registration details at any time. Just go to My Profile and My Personal Settings, type in your new details and Save Changes.
Can anyone post on Chat?
Yes, but you do need to be logged in first. If you're a registered MFM member, you can tell if you're logged in by looking at the very top right corner of any page (you'll see a red 'person' icon on a phone or your MFM Screen Name on a desktop computer) or the bottom of any discussion thread (you'll see your Screen Name there if you are logged in; if you're not logged in, you'll see a Log in prompt in the top right corner). If you're not a member yet, you can sign up for free here.
How do I find my way around Chat?
If you look at our Chat home page, you'll see we've divided up the forum into different Sections and then into different Topics, each based around one particular subject. Within each Topic, you'll find different discussion threads. Just click on the thread title to read the discussion.
What are all these abbreviations, like POAS and BFP?
All will become clear after a quick look at our guide to all the most used abbreviations and acronyms on MFM. Do please let us know if you think we we've missed any off!
How do I reply to a discussion thread?
Just hit any of the pink Reply buttons on a thread and you'll be taken to a blank message box. Type your reply into the box and, when you're happy with it, press Post your reply.
How do I start a discussion thread?
Click on any pink Start a Thread button.
How do I find discussion threads I've posted on?
At the top of every Topic page and Discussion page, there is pink Followed Threads link. To see all the discussion threads you've posted on, click on that.
How do I find my previous posts?
Click on My Profile (make sure you're logged in) and you'll see a link called My posts. You'll find this is a list of all the replies you posted on other people's discussion threads and all the discussion threads you've started yourself.
How do I change my screen name?
Your screen name is the name that appears on all your forum posts. For privacy reasons, most people prefer to post under a screen name that's not their real name. You can change your screen name at any time by going to My Profile (make sure you're logged in), selecting My Settings, typing your new choice of screen name over the top of your old one – and then hitting Save Changes. You may find your choice of screen name is already taken by another user; if so, just try again with a different name.
How can I send a private message to another user?
You can send, and reply to, private messages from a thread (find the Send PM button next to the right poster's name) or from My Profile. Once you're in your Profile (you'll need to be logged in), select My Messages. To send a message, select +New Message. To reply to a message you've received, click into the message thread and fill in your reply in the Reply box.
How do I delete or edit a post?
You can't do this yourself. MFM HQ are the only people who can authorise post edits or deletions from the forum. To request that a post be deleted, please use the 'Report' link (there's one on every post) and someone from HQ will take a look.
How do I post a picture on a thread?
Just click on the little camera icon in the message box toolbar. It's that easy!
How do I report a post/thread I'm concerned about?
We don't pre-moderate any posts on MadeForMums, so we do rely on our members to report to us any posts or threads that might break our posting rules, that are causing you concern or that you'd simply like us to see. To report a post or thread, click the Report link and fill in the little box that appears to let us know why you're reporting it. We'll reply to you as soon as we possibly can.
What are your posting rules?
We'd love you to have a good old read through our full Code of Conduct but, in short, it boils down to these five basic 'rules' we ask members to stick to in order to keep our Forum a nice place to hang out: be friendly, be constructive, be considerate, and be honest (and don't post spam or recruit to other groups or websites).
How will I know if someone has replied to a thread I've posted on?
You will receive an email notification when someone replies. You can also click on the Followed threads link to see all the recent activity on threads you've posted on.
What if I don't want email notifications? Or don't want them all the time?
You can change or cancel your email notifications in My Profile. To cancel them, select My Settings and then Forum Settings and then switch the Replies Notifications to Default to off. You can then still opt to receive email notifications on certain specific threads by checking the Email me when a response is made tick box underneath the Add a message box.
I'm a journalist/researcher/student: can I start a thread to ask your members' views?
We are always happy to help journalists, researchers and students as much as we can. We do ask, though, that you email us first, please, with the outline of the kind of request you have – and we'll talk you through the process from there.
What is my profile?
Your My Profile page is a page where you can access (and amend) your account details, send and receive personal messages, see the posts and reviews you've posted, and change the way you view the Forum chat on MadeForMums. All of these details are only visible to you. Your My Profile page also contains your Public Profile, where you can upload a picture and write some details about yourself that other users can see when they click on your name.
Why should I update my Profile with my children's details?
We use the information you share with us about your children's date of birth to send you occasional mailings about your child's age and stage of development – which we hope you will find useful and entertaining. We never share this information with other users or with third parties, without your permission.
How do I subscribe or unsubscribe to your email newsletters?
If you go to My Profile and click on Newsletter Settings, you will see a list of all our email newsletters, with a tick against the ones you have signed up to. Just tick/untick the fields to change your subscriptions.
How do I delete my registration to MadeForMums?
Oh no, the one question we really don't like to be asked! We hope you don't really mean it. If it's just a question of your not wanting to receive emails from us any more, please just change your Newsletter Settings (see above) or email us and we'll do it for you. If you do really want to delete your registration completely, though, just drop us a line.
If you have any question that isn't answered here – or any suggestion or feedback for us in general – do please email us and we'll respond to you as quickly as we can. We really value feedback (good and bad), so please don't hold back!
