Pupils from Devon primary school are regulars at the Molesworth Arms - for lunch
Schoolchildren at Pyworthy Primary School in Devon are nipping down to the pub each lunchtime for a swift bite to eat.
Lack of space at their small village school meant children were unable to have hot dinners served at lunchtime. When former dinner lady turned pub landlord, Denise Short, heard about the eating arrangements, she offered the school the chance to have hot meals at her pub, the Molesworth Arms.
The primary school children now regularly enjoy roast dinners, fish and chips and baked potatoes.
“For pupils to be able to have food cooked fresh and locally sourced, and sit at the table with a knife and fork rather than a plastic tray in their classrooms, I just thought it was the right thing to do,” Denise told The Metro.
Rather than trooping through the public bar, the children use a separate entrance and sit in the pub dining room. It seems parents have been won over by the idea, as the school has seen an uptake in children choosing to have hot meals.
