Is your child gifted?

Have you got a gifted child aged four or under. If so, you might be ideal as a family to appear in a very positive piece for Practical Parenting. I’m looking to chat to a mum whose child has maybe been able to do sums, read or shown any other talent- maybe art or musical ability- from a very early age. Maybe they have not only astounded you, but nursery staff, professionals, etc. too.

 Possibly it has even lead to you contacting gifted children organisations or MENSA.

My daughter Isabelle is 4 and speaks Mandarin, spainsh, swahili (if thats how you spell it) and also is quite good at sign lanuage. Although asking her to do it is harder than it sounds. She doesnt really like to do it if asked but she has just gained her Mandarin award. We are a musical family and she loves playing the drums and has a good go on the guitar although I would call it more noise that music.

Aren't all our children giften and talented in some way shape or form?

As a teacher i hate that label as it pigeon holes children and makes them feel different! We all have our own special talents that should be celebrated. Each child should be judged on what they can do and made to feel like they have achieved something, be it tying a shoe lace, waving, eating with a fork or speaking a different language.

I was going to put exactly the same as you Caroline . Every parent feels their child is gifted.

I agree that all children are gifted in some way my son who is two has an absolutely fantastic memory and vocabulary. when we take him out people always comment.  He knew his alphabet by the time he was 1 and by 18 months could name all the makes of car on the road, he knows all his colours, shapes can count very well but is better at recognising numbers such as the numbers above supermarket isles.  He is making efforts at reading now although I think he is memorising rather than actually reading but he is getting the idea at 2.  He really is a book worm. He has an inflatable globe and can point out england, france, spain,brazil, africa, argentina, poland and many more and if you point to the country he will tell you what it is 9 times out of 10 however again sometimes he resents being asked to do it, he likes to do it spontaniously.

I must say he struggles slightly with motorskills so although he excels in someways he also requires help in others.

I am interested in about your opinion. I have a two years and 4 months old son, who speaks Hungarian fluently (native language). He started the nursery two months ago and he already knows lots of English words, the ABC, the letter sounds, and the numbers up to ten (can add up numbers). He recognise letters in words. He is very interesting about books and piano. When he goes to sleep he signs the ABC's. I need to teach him things, because he asks me to teach him. He always tells me what happened in the nursery. But since a week he comes home and tells me they did not do anything in the nursery. I think he started to get bored in the nursery, he still ok in the nursery, because he learns the language, but he does not interested the playing and the toys in there. I think there is no any nursery and primary school in South East England who support talented kids. If I would like to put him into a normal nursery and primary school, I need to make him less talented, otherwise he would misbehave in the school, because he already knows the things what they are teaching there. I do not agree inclusion in the schools and nurseries.

We all are talented.. and we all had a same answer when mum asked:' What did you do in the nursery today?' .
