Can you help?

I'm looking for a few mums to share their scan stories for a PP article. Ideally, I need to speak to:
- Someone who discovered it was twins at the 12-week scan
- Someone who found out she was having a girl at her 20-week scan, having already had two (or more) boys - or vice versa
- Someone who discovered an anomaly at the 20-week scan, such as a cleft palate or a hole in the heart
- Someone who had a late (37 week ish) scan and the baby was breech so a caesarean was needed
If you fit any of those categories and would be interested in sharing your experiences, I'd love to hear from you. You can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a message for me here and I'll check back in. You'd need to be available for a phone chat in the next week or so.

We discovered that I was having twins at my 12 weeks scan. It was a complete shock. We don't have twins in the family and it had never crossed our minds.

I had a great shock to discover it was twins on my 12 weeks scan, but worst of all they thought it was triplets, had to have another scan a couple of weeks later which confirmed it was just 2.
Was then told on my 20 week scan that i was having 2 boys, so i went out and bought all blue and roughly picked names, then went back to have another scan at 6 months then to be told 1 was definatly a boy but the other might be a girl but they couldnt tell properly, so i had to wait another month till my 7 month scan and it was confirmed this week that i was expecting 1 boy and 1 girl.
I have also experienced the breech baby, it was with my son and up until i was a week before i was due my midwife kept telling me my sons head was down, until i had another midwife check and she thought it was his bum not his head, so i was rushed for a scan that day and it confirmed that he indeed was breech and i was booked in for a c section 4 days later

I have decided not to have any scans at all!

I decided on the basis that although scans have never been proven to pose a health risk they have also never been proven safe either. I also really wanted to experience as natural a pregnancy as possible, scans can provide so much unnessesary worry as they have a high rate of false positives which then makes parents worry about things that later turn out to be false alarms. i'm 15 weeks now (well tomorrow) and I am the expert on my baby, I have not had a sonographer have to decode information to me. I am trusting my body to grow this baby. However if i had a bleed or there seemed to be a problem with my pregnancy I would have a scan, There is no evidence out there that says routine scans are benefical.
new scanning machines are also much stronger than the ones the initially researched and deemed to pose no noticable health risks.

I admire your views, as ive never heard of anyone not wanting a scan before. However for me i'm to paranoid ive got to know that everything is ok and they are growing fine etc. More important for me this time round as i'm carrying twins, so i have to have scans now every 2 weeks. Best of luck with the remainder of your pregnancy.xxx

Thanx, lol yes that would be a shock for you if they pulled 1 baby out and they said there was another one in there.
I haven't got long left to wait for the birth now though, they are booking me in for a c section next month, haven't had a date yet though, my consultants going to give me 1 next week.

I found out i was having twins at 5weeks after an emergency scan due to a very long history of misscarrage we were warned that there may only be one on the next scan
we were monitored closely and scaned at total of 14 times including a 45 minute 4d scan but both decided to stick around in there till 28weeks when they decided to worry us a bit more by coming 12weeks early they are now thirving toddlers and will turn 3 on christmas day

Thank you all for your replies. I've now found all the case studies I need, but I very much appreciate you all taking the time to share your experiences.
