Gabe's 8 months and 1 wk old and still in an infant carrier.

He's 20lb 7oz and has just started sitting unaided. He still fits in the infant seat easily (his head is not too close to the top) but his legs do dangle over the end as he's tall.

When did your lo's go into a front facing seat? And what seat do they have? (recommendations welcome) Are there any seats that recline as well as sit upright so he can go to sleep comfortably?

    Hi Tigerlily
How's my fave little man doing?!!
We put Charlotte in a stage 2 seat just after Xmas as she is small little lady.
We bought a fab seat - a Maxi Cosi Priori XP (available from Mothercare). Dead easy to fit and it reclines really easily. Can even do it from the driver's seat (when stationery of course). Harness really easy to put on and tighten. Charlotte looks really comfy in it. Well worth the money. We got it in sale at Mothercare - ??115. Is normally around ??145 - ??150.

    hi Tigerlily!

i always waited til they weighed more than 9kg (which i'm sure Gabe does now?)- the problem i had was that they used to push themselves away from the back seat of the car, and as they did it slowly, the seat belt did loosen!!

i now have the Maxi Cosi Tobi, and it does everything you want it to! it is a bit pricier than some, but if you look around smaller shops / internet you can get good deals on it. i paid ??130 instead of ??165 (Mothercare / Boots)

i have also had a Britax Renaissance (equivalent to the ? First Class?) which was also great, and a Bebeconfort Iseos TT - again, i loved it, and only changed it as they wouldnt fit into the next car i got! i've paid less for car seats, but tbh, i do believe that you pay for what you get. i got a Mothercare's own seat which was about ??40-50, but even though from 9 months, wasnt really suitable. it didnt recline, wasnt well padded, and looked damn uncomfortable!

go somewhere like toys r us / mothercare, have a look at what you like, have it fitted in your car, then look for it cheaper somewhere else!!

Charlotte's not over 9kg yet but 1 year old and she is fine in her stage 2 seat. She's so much happier as she can see where she is going etc!

It is down to weight and your infant seat will only be safe up to a defined weight - length age etc DOES NOT MATTER!!!! It is weight thatis important so check what your seats maximum weight is and then check what the minimum weight on a next seat would be before you decide!

We have the britax first class si, and my parents have it for cole also and its really good. It reclines fine and it sits up ok too and I've just discovered the button to loosen the harness easily

We've been happy with the seat and its fit in every car no problems including our escort which has funny seatbelts apparently so not many fit. I think including parents cars, mums old car, ours, and various friends the seat has been in 7 different cars all fitting fine (we check on teh website first)

Cole went in his seat at 8 months old because we had to go to a wedding and it was a 5+ hour trip and we figured he'd be happier with more room and it would be better if we could see him and he could see us. It did make the last hour of horrible traffic on the m25 slightly easier as at least I could see him when he was crying and fed up.

We had cole weighed before we got the seat and he was the right weight, the guy at mothercare also said he should be able to sit up on his own for 20 mins before he went in the seat and said the age wasn't as important as the weight. The nasty cow on the tills however tried to lecture us because we were daring to consider putting him in the seat a month early - and we were buying it a month before we intended to use it so he was 7 months old, and she was busy telling us he'd die if we had an accident - despite the fact that he was practically the right weight at 7 months, and he was starting to sit up then and we were clear about the fact that we weren't going to use it for another month. She was a total cow.

As it happens, he was sitting fine when we wanted to use it, and he was quite happy in it and loves looking out of the window and stuff and was just fine. He sleeps comfortably in it, he sits fine in it and i'm totally happy with it. Its not too fiddly to fit and it has instructions on the side which is handy as it means you don't need to dig outt he manual if you want to move it.

he is big enough to fgo into it as he is over 20lb and he can sit up on his own now so that is all that matters. freya is 10 months but only 18lb5 so she is still in her infant carrier, im going to get her a new one next month, but im a bit worried so i dont think that i will actualy put her in it until; she is 20lb.
my older daughter went in hers at 7.5 months as she was 20lb and sitting up well. x

Just a thought on the first class si - its actually from birth so if you wanted more room for gabe but were worried about him being forward facing you could always get one thats suitable from birth and keep him rear facing for a while longer and he'd have a bit more space.

Glad this is on here. Zacky is nearly 8 months and at weigh in nearly 2 weeks ago was 18lb. He has 2 infant carriers at the mo, 1 for use in my dads car (a dawoo matiz) and 1 for use in the family car. One is a Graco one with the base that is fitted in the car using the seat belt as seat belts are not long enough to fit found any carriers to be found in either mothercare or halfords. It is verry well padded though and as Zack is a bit round in the belly region LOL he gets jammed in it now. really awkward to fit him in it let alone get him out LOL, and the handle bends quite baddly now when you pick him up.

His other carrier is a mothercare meteor which is a little better as there is far less padding in it.

I know that he is not big enough yet for the forward facing seats, but im sure that a well padded one would be alot more comfy for him.

New year we went to OHs sisters for a party and she picked us up bless. As I thought it might be a pain for her to remove her child seats to get Zacky in and it was a short journey we put Zacky in her forward facing seat that her 4 year old uses (4 year old is verry small). Zacky sits well and has done so for ages now, but he looked so little in it, and verry confused.

Iv got a ford puma (when i drive it) and will need a seat to fit in it soon as I return to work next month and I will need to be dropping him off at moms who will be looking after him. Just wondered if there were any recomendations for seats that fit in that particular make of car.

    Hi Tiger Lily,

We've had Evie in 2nd stage car seat since she reached 9kg because she was so uncomfy in infant carrier. We have maxi cosi priori and it's fab, really easy to fit, easy to recline and so comfy and padded. Both girls have the same seat cos we like it so much. Oh and I found mine really cheap on halfords website so maybe worth a look? It only cost ??90.
