    Hi everyone,

How many hours of sleep during the day does your 5/6 month old have?

I have Isabelle's night time sleep sorted and she is really great, but during the day I think I have it and then she changes things again and doesn't sleep like the day before. I don't mind when she sleeps but I don't know how much sleep she should be getting during the day.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks x

I've found the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Marc Weissbluth to be really helpful. It's more about length of awake time rather than length of naps. He talks about how to watch for signs of drowsiness and gradually increasing the amount of awake time your baby is able to have as they get older.
Charlotte used to only be able to stay awake for an hour and a half before she needed a nap. Now that she's 6 months, she's able to stay awake a little longer but still needs a nap after about 2 hours. If I time it right, she'll go down with very little fuss. Her naps range from an hour to 2 hours but sometimes she'll only sleep for 45 minutes. Usually she'll have 3 naps in the day (about 4 hours in total) but if her first two naps in the day are quite long then she'll only have 2 naps.
    Hope this helps!

Charlotte is now 5 and half months and I have followed her cues for naps so now I know when to put her down for a sleep. In the morning after I've topped & tailed her I'll put her straight in her cot (at about 9.30) and she will normally drop off with no problems and sleep for 1 to 2 hours.
The afternoon I haven't got hang of exactly as she can be tired anytime, depending on how much play she has had and if we go out for a walk in the pushchair. Normally it's around 2 to 4pm and she could have about another 1 to 2 hours. Although this afternoon she has played a lot and has only just dropped off at 5.30 after her feed so I'll have to wake her soon as don't really like her napping too much after 5pm.

I should just keep following you lo's cues and let her sleep when she wants to. I would think about 2 naps a day and about 5 hours would be average but as we know all babies are different. It's good to get them to nap in the day as this can actually help them sleep better at night.

I read all your posts to my little man (6mths old next week)before he went to bed and told him to take heed on daytime napping lol

He wakes at 6:30 every morning has a 30 minute nap 9:30, 20 mins around 1:30 and 30 mins (if I'm lucky) about 4:30

He is then in bed asleep around 6:30 (and touchwood sleeps all night or wakes for a feed about 3ish)

He must be the most alert baby around (and me the most tired mummy trying to keep him entertained all day lol)

Not complaining though as I non many more have broken nights sleep

my lo is 5 1/2 months and wakes between 7 - 8 am usually sleeps from around 9.30 - 10 for an hour or so. after lunch will sleep for another hour or 2 and sometimes has another quick nap around 5. He then goes to bed at 7 pm and will sleep through. he usually only lasts between 2 and 3 hours awake at anytime and if he has been busy bouncing he will get tired quicker - loves his door bouncer!

im lo is slightly older at 8 months but since he sleeps in his cot he had so much better naps! He had two a day one at 9:30/10 and another at 2ish. One of the naps will be about 2 hours long and then other about 30-45 mins x
