    Hi guys

Just wanted your opinions on this.

My LO is now 3 months old and has been on hungry baby milk since he was 2 weeks old.

He has five 7oz bottles a day which according to the box guidelines he should be having at 5-6months old. However the weight for a 5-6 month old on the box is 15 3/4 lbs, and my LO is 15lb 8 oz (okay, not so LO), so he is taking the right amoutn for his weight.

I spoke to my HV yesterday about weaning properly...he has had some baby rice, but soon I want to start introducing proper meals. She advised the reasons for not doing it before 17weeks but said ultimately the decision is mine as he is my child. Anyway, I thought I would try and delay weaning until 17weeks on this advice and just increase his milk to 8oz then to 9 etc when he starts to demand more. However, I have just looked on the box guidelines and the maximum quantity the guide goes upto is 5feeds of 7 oz, for a 5-6 month old.....then for a 7 month old it advises 3 feeds of 7 oz.....

God im rambling now....anyway, I know this is only a guide, but am thinking that once my LO is draining his 7oz bottles do you think I should up his milk intake or use this as an indication that he is ready for weaning???? In all other respects he shoudl be fine for solids as he is very strong and has great head control. He also watches us eating, although I put that down to him being incredibly nosey!!!!

Anyway, I know should go with my instinct on t his but all opinions would be gratefully received.

hi. it sounds like you have a very hungry little man!!! i have had 5 kids and started to wean at 12 - 16 weeks. i would probably start to add some pureed fruit and veg into his rice try one thing at a time to see if his tummy likes it or not. then just slowly increase it . your instincts will tell you what is the right amount for you baby. as long as he has his milk feeds first he should be fine. good luck.xxxx

I weaned my boys at 14wk and 18wk, my first being very hungry! He had 9oz bottles and was on the hungry baby milk early on too. Every baby's different and for some the six month rule is just so unrealistic. I'll wean dd when she's ready. Happy weaning!
