I have a 15month old son who is quite literally into everything. He pulls dvd's off the shelf, pages out of books and nappies out of his storage box a TRILLION times a day. Anyway ive said im not having a xmas tree put up this year, some of my baubles are quite sharp, im worried he'l electrocute himself and to be honest i can be doing without the tears and sulks and shouting NO all day. However my MIL and MUM have said im mean and ruining xmas for him by not having one, i always dress my fireplace beautifully and this year im decorating the window too. what do you think??

If you've got some other decorations up, so there are things for him to look at and the house looks festive, I don't see how you're ruining Christmas for him! I thought from the subject you weren't going to have any decorations at all, and I have to admit I thought that was a bit mean lol.

I'm still wondering about the logistics of having a tree myself - I also have a 15 month old.

Btw, mu mum says "he'll learn, you only pulled the tree over on yourself once" - hmm, point made I think!

No you are definitely not mean! A very good mummy, if your lo is so inquisitive. My lo is into everything and won't leave anything alone. Luckily he is a little younger at 10 months and we have a table which we are putting our tree on. No way he can get to it there, I hope! All the wires/plugs are out of reach as they are behind the sofa, which is next to the table! So we are lucky, there is no way I would put the tree on the floor where he could get to it as it would be a danger to him and a constant nightmare for us pulling him away! You can do the tree next year when he is older and understands more xx

I have the same problem. But i think i will put my tree on the back of my dining table which is rarely used in the corner of the room. we have 10ft ceilings so should look nice and not too crowded and he cant get to it!
can you put yours up high?

    Not mean at all.
We didnt have a tree last year and we're probably not going to have one this year either. We have no room for one, and Ollie would do himself, the tree and MJ damage if there was one up.
We did have the windows decorated so we looked a little festive, but there are plenty of years for them to have the whole house decorated.

TBH our neighbours are putting me off doing anything this year. They put theirs up yesterday and they have literally covered the garden, walls and roof with really tacky looking decs, and there's a tree in every window. IT just looks way too much and really tacky. I dont mind a few tasteful lights outside - some displays look really good, but I'm afraid this one doesnt, its all odds and ends that they've just flung up in no pattern/order...
(The house behind us usually does something equally as tacky and theirs is enough to light up the whole street! )

No I dont think youre being mean, mine will go up the week before Xmas and come down the week after, and not because my lo will get to it since she'll only be 9 months on Xmas day and is still not crawling, but because I have 4 cats who then make it their mission to literally stip the bottom 2 feet of the tree and run off with the tinsel !!

and that is just one cat, imagine that happening with 4 cats !!

I will do a tree again this year even though LO is 1 year old as I figure he will learn and I'd rather at least give it a go and see what happens.
I wouldn't criticise anyone that didn't bother though as sometimes you know it's not worth it - we did the same when we had kittens and couldn't shut them away from the tree.

In my capacity as worlds most iresponsible parent we are having the same huge great real tree we always have. I am not going to let my holigan of a 17 month old stop the rest of us enjoying the tree!! In particular it seems a bit hard on Millie not to have one as she is desperately excited about Christmas. I figure Barney will just have to learn not to touch it. Either that or I'll put him on a lead until the tree comes down
