I've just started freezing cubes of pureed baby food in preparation for weening as determined to do all home cooked food. My question is, when I'm going out, is it ok to put the relevent frozen cubes in a container and let them defrost then heat up when out eg in boiling water like with bottles, or do you have to heat from frozen and use straight away? Otherwise how will I feed lo when out? I read somewhere that you have to defrost the food and heat up thoroughly then wait till it cools down - my lo will be screaming for his food by then!!!

    Hi Debbie & Joshua

I too make all lo's food and I am pretty sure you have to let them defrost thoroughly before heating.
I have only ever taken a frozen cube out with me once and in that case I just let it defrost by itself then gave lo it cold. It was butternut squash & something and he didn't mind it cold at all.
When we go out now I usually take a jar and keep it warm in a bottle warmer.

If im organised I let the food defrost in the fridge over night but sometimes I have to defrost it in the microwave. If your heating food it should be heated till its hot then let it cool, I spend my life blowing on food at the moment. If im going out I take a ripe banana which can be mashed to a pulp when I need it and doesnt need heating.

I nuke my food in the microwave at home to heat it up, if I'm out and about I take frozen food which is usually somewhat defrosted by the time it's lunch/dinner and heat it up in hot water.

I think they say 3 months food can stay in the freezer but I would say keep it in a airtight container as I started putting them in plastic bags when they were emptied out of the ice cube trays and they do not keep very well I get my food out the day before so its defrosted when I heat it but sometimes if I forget I just defrost it in the microwave. I heat it for about 25 secs and then serve it and have done for all my children. If I go out some where I take my puree fruit already defrosted with me as it does not need heating up as its already been cooked before I froze it and also give a yoghurt.
