Hi my lo will be 4 months next week and is booked in for a BCG on Monday. The thing is she is also meant to be going for her 16week jabs on the Thursday - I'm a bit worried it is going to be a bit much for her to have both in the same week particularly the BCG which I've heard can be quite hard on them.
I'm tempted to postpone one of them, does anyone know what the BCG is like?

Is the BCG the TB jab? Is she at risk from it cos it's not a usual jab? I'd not postpone the 16 week jabs as they're supposed to have them 4 weekly. Plus they have 3 at this set so having one on Monday may be a bit harsh on her! If it is the TB jab, it hurt me until my scab fell off for quite a few weeks, but i was 11 then. Could the vaccines clash? I'd ask your doc if it's ok having them so close together.
Good luck whatever you do x

I didnt think you got the BGC jab until u were about 11. I got mine at comprehensive school and my LO didnt get his when he went thru all his jabs. I dont think my new baby will get the either,

    I'm confused xx

This is the TB jab and only given to those at risk. Hubby works as a locum in a high TB area in London so is 'at risk' and they do apparently give it to babies. I did ask the HV yesterday but one said it was ok and the other wasn't sure!

I think it depends on your area - again the post code lottery!
My LO got her BCG at 10 weeks, a letter was written to us with an appointment and that was that. It doesn't matter if your LO has their other injections as they are separate from each other. They would obviously know that your LO has their 8, 12 or 16 week injections, but if you want to postpone 1, then I would postpone the BCG. At the clinic they explain that the baby will scab and please don't pick it! It takes a few weeks before the scab appears and a few months before it disappears.
    Good luck! Sarah xxx

I think it depends on how she took the other jabs. My lo was ok with all her jabs and had no reaction when he went for a BCG, then a Hep B injection within 6 days of each other. They said he would have a swelling on his arm with the BCG, but not even that. The nurse did put a note in for the Hep B nurse to know that he just had BCG.

    Good luck

Decided to postpone the BCG just in case she reacts badly. Last time was ok but the first set made her really unhappy, so I'd rather just have her be grumpy once in the week! Thanks for all the advice x

I live in Bahrain in the middle east and they have to have this by time 10days old. It did not seem to bother mine at all and though they have scar it did not affect them at time.

hi, proly a bit late to offer any reassurance now, but saw this and wanted to comment -
i had my bcg when i was a baby, only a couple of months, cos we moved out to the middle east with my dad. i obviously cant remember it myself, but i asked my mum and she said i was the best out of all my sisters! (both older than me) in fact my dad was the worst, it was a basic surgery out there so just stand in a queue get injected type thing, well the guy in front of him puked and passed out and dad had to catch him! lol!
good thing about bcg as a baby is that the younger you get it, the smaller the scar. my scar's now only a tiny white dot, all my friends who had it yr9 at secondary school still have massive black and red things! and when all my friends were freaking out about it i didn't have to get it
sorry bit of a ramble there, basically - don't worry, go for it!
