    Hello

Does anyone know if children with chest infections are usually allowed in nursery? I had thought that usually they were supposed to be kept off but there was a girl in Avas nursery who had been diagnosed wiht one today?

If the Dr has diagnosed the girl with a chest infection - I'd say its highly likely she has been given anti-biotics??? Not a Dr tho so I can't say for sure just going on my experience!!!... as T has had 2 chest infections and ABs for both. The most recent time, he was allowed back to nursery 48hrs after starting his ABs - well it was just under 48hrs. I guess it depends on the nursery policy...
    You could ask them?
Our nursery often puts signs up with something like that - there was one about chicken pox but they failed to put one up about conjunctivitis in T's room and he's now got it! urgh!

well i work in a nursery and generally for a chest infection i dont think there is a rule of how long they have to be off however a child with a chest infection would be ill so really the parents should keep them at home any way xxx

if ollie has a chest infection I tend to keep him off until towards the end of his antibiotics (but i understand a lot of mummies dont have that option). Thats not what our nursery makes us do though - they are happy to accept them as long as you sign to say they can administer medicine and act as "loco parentis." But i know Ollie catches things very easily and I'd rather he didnt get the 'nursery cold' while he has a CI.

yeah, i did ask the nursery and they are happy for them to go in with an infection as long as they are manageable health wise if you see what i mean (just didn't know if this was the norm). its just that our dr's are of the opinion that she shouldn't have been at nursery due to the contageousness. we had to check wiht them if we should keep ava off due to her asplenia when there is a chest infection doing the rounds..... now i'm all in a quandry as to what to do! this would be ideal if it wasn't for avas health complications.... hmm!
