Just investigating where to put the ??250 voucher - have looked on various websites but have confused myself! (Not an unusual event....)
What have you ladies done with yours? Where did you invest them?

I put Zaras in The Childrens Mutual mainly because thats where I had Amys account too. It was really handy coz I managed to do it all online & set up a direct debit for ??10 a month to go in too the same as I have with Amys. Shes had her account there for over 2 years now & we havent had any problems with it. They also sent me ??30 of mothercare vouchers for setting it up & setting up a regular payment which will def come in useful

We've still got Rhianna's on the memo board in the kitchen, the interest rate is so low it's hardly worth it........! xx

I put Poppys in the Abbey, the interest on these accounts isn't great so I've only invested her trust fund voucher in there. I've opened a high interest savings account (with ice save) for her as well and am paying in monthly to that rather than the trust fund one as the interest is higher.

Its not so much where to put it as to what kind of account? Cash, Stakeholder or non-stakeholder? I'm usually ok at finance (tis my job after all!) - but there just seems to be so much conflicting advice on the CTF. I think perhaps I'm worrying too much!

I put it in a non stakeholder. I know it may not grow as much as a stakeholder but the fact that it could go down worried me slightly! As I said, the rest of her money is in a normal high interest account so I'm really only 'playing' with the money she receives from the government.

I've put mine in Barclays (Woolwich) stakeholder. We're guranteed against loosing everything because even if the bottom drops out the market 1 week before his 18th b'day we are guranteed 80% of the highest market value over the previous 18 years. Also, stocks and shares have been proven to outperform cash accounts if the investment stands for over 5 years.
I don't feel like I'm gambling with my son's future.

I put Kara's into the Nationwide but I opened a separate bank account for her there as well as the interest rate is better on that and I will add to that every month instead of topping up the Child Trust Fund account.

hiya i just went to the bank today and i have had Lewi's voucher for 9 month lol - i went into a couple of banks and none of them were very helpful - the bank of scotland said that all account were pretty much the same because it all about oh i cant remember what she said lol - but i opened a different savings account that we can withdraw money out of in case he needs it before he is 18, and he can get a card when he is 11 but i wont tell him about it coz i remember what i was like at 11 lol - they get another voucher for ??250 when they are 7 so i am putting his voucher into an account that the bank of scotland reccomended but they were very forthcoming with information so god knows what it will do! its all about the goverment making money after all!

I put it in Nationwide stakeholder account, mainly because they were the most helpful when i went in to ask and i had confused myself by then, we decided to do the stakeholder as we save for Maddie anyway so thought it was worth the small risk.

    hi
we put ollies into a HSBC stakeholder account as we wanted one where we could see someone face to face about it if needed, and to pay into, we didnt like the idea of sending a cheque through the post to some company with no 'face'.

we've used the money he got at birth and xmas to put into it as well, and are going to put any other money he gets into it too.

it can be a risk if you put it on the shares but if the investment is long term enough you usually do stand a chance of getting some really good returns on it. (and they start to put it into lower risk shares from 13yrs onwards)
and you have to remember you can move it to a different provider at any time....
