i know not preg related, but did any of you catch despatches last night, about the rising cost of food etc?

to say it worried me was an understatement!

i think i always thought the rising cost of food was due to packaging, transport etc, but to find out that everywhere globally is struggling to produce food (like rice, wheat etc) was shocking!

someone has suggested in about 20yrs time there will not be enough food to feed us all! (this bit wasnt on the TV - a friend of a friend scenario)

    what do you think?

I caught a bit of it (we were eating dinner ironically!) definatly starting to feel the pinch. Our shopping bills have gone up at least 30 quid a fortnight and we dont even buy any luxury food.

I didnt catch the programme last night but I know our shopping would probably be about ??30 more expensive every week than what it was this time last year. I had read somewhere that the world as a whole hasnt been producing as much food due to poorer harvests & this combined with increased demand from countries like India & China is what has primarily bumped the prices up though the costs of fuel have contributed a bit too.

I know now before I go shopping I make a list of what we will have for breakfast, lunch & tea everyday & make sure I only buy what we need so that nothing is wasted.

do you think that works? i've tried it, and still seem to end up buying loads more stuff - i think it is mainly fruit & veg (i know i should go to a market for it, but i have only heard of 1 local market this week open on week days - i am not traipsing round one with my 2 eldest at weekend!!) that cost for me, and recently i have been good in not wasting when it has gone off. i have also started picking individual stuff instead of packs (if you know what i mean!)

i keep saying i will go to the butchers, but i promise i will make the effort now........

It sounds morbid, but taking your friend of a friend's comment ollier2001 ... isn't it just natural selection stagnating on a bearable population number? They say that when conditions like food, water, space etc become limited, those affected stop reproducing as much to make sure there is enough to go around (and credit to china, they get taxed to pieces if they have more than one child per family now. Although, too heavy an emphasis on boys. Still, that's population control!), that is, if they can't produce more of the conditions from another environment.

Do you think they'll make us eat GM food before they put similar restrictions on us Although, doubt they will. Apparently Britain is no longer full of 2.4 family's, it's closer to 2.1 ... in Spain it's something like 1.3!

its not surprising that food has gone up.
Dont think we'll run out of it tho.

We do grow all our own veg and fruit so we dont have to pay supermarket prices.
We do (or try) a bi monthyl shop and spend around ??250 for two months - but we do go round a couple of different stores - mainly start off with lidl, then netto and tesco to finish off (only because thats the way theyre set out here). We get lots of meat from our local butcher (and i just got a great deal four massive steaks for ??15) but do get the chicken fillets from tesco (frozen isle) as thy are really good value for money (the tesco value ones) at the moment.
Last time i looked a potatoes in tesco, the value ons were about ??2.50 and they had already started growing!

I have deffo noticed our shopping bills rising. We have recently moved to ROI and prices here are just terrble!! Convereted into pounds our bills have nearly trebled!!! We try to use butchers for our meats although a lot of the supermarkets have proper butchers in them and proper fish monghers ect so you can just buy the meat you need. Fresh produce is very expencive and tends not to last very long.

I find I spend much less money if I do our shopping on line. You cant see all the new products they try to seduce you with in the shop. I find if I cant see it, I dont buy it! I thry to only go in the shop for things like fruit and veg.

A lot of peoples reaction will be WEIRDO but I gotta tell u all this..............

I am a Christian (a lot of ppl will stop reading here lol) and I have been waiting for this to happen for the past year- the bible makes reference to the following all happening before the return of Christ-

    -wars and rumours of wars
-flooding and numerous other natural disasters, if you ever watch al jazerra (sp) news there have been reports of floods, earthquakes, hurricanes practically every week for the last few months.
-the so called 'credit crunch'- please believe me this is only going to get worse and worse
-the microchip which has been introduced in America will come into action here and food will be so short it will be rationed- the chip will be in your hand and this is how they will control food.
-there will be a one world government- the whole European thing is just the start of this, the whole world will be run with one government
    - the oil shortages this is why Russia is so friendly with Iran.

The key moment when things will really go bad is when Israel signs a 7 year peace treaty- there WILL be 3 1/2 years of peace for the country then literally all hell will break loose.

I know that you will all now probably think I am a raving lunatic but I'm not I am an ordinary person who happens to know that there IS a God and that what the bible says is fact- I don't want to start a whole biblical debate or offend anyone but if you have read this you will see sometime that I was right- don't leave it too late.
