    Hi girls,

Charlie is nearly 8 months now and it still refusing lumpy food! I have tried and tried to get him to eat it but he gets in a right old state and just spits it out! I brought a blender but i didn't really work ( was a cheap one!) I am finding it really frustrating as he's only on small jars still (4-7 months) and that's just not enough for him anymore! He will eat any finger food i put in front of him, the hv told me to keep going and he was just playing me up but i don't know what to do. My other son ( now 4) was fine with lumps from about 6 months so this is a real battle for me!

Anyone else having the same problem? Any advice will be very helpful

I've not had this problem but I read that it's because baby sucks the pur????e off the spoon so when there's lumps in it,these hit the back of the throat and cause problems swallowing. Finger foods go down well because there's no confussing them with a liquid, they don't get sucked to the back of the mouth but are moved from the front , chewed then swallowed.

Could you try making a really thick porridge so that he can't suck it straight in or maybe something like macaroni cheese but with just a very small amount of sauce, that may go down better as it's drier so more like finger food than a pur????e x

i read that if you add cous cous to a puree that gives a bit of texture, but not too much, so can lead to easier transition - maybe worth a try?

Peter spits couscous out regularly and he is really good with lumps, but that is probably just him. I was wondering, if he eats finger foods reasonably well, could you give him soup/pur????e but, instead of spoon feeding him, offer it to him on a finger of bread or toast? We do this with Peter and he is learning to chew off the end of the bread, although he still sucks it a lot. Once your lo has learned to chew with more confidence, you might be able to get him to take lumps off a spoon better.
