Just wondering what anyones experience was i am 40+5 and after consultant appointment just found out baby is back to back. They dont think it will turn as too late so just wanting to know what to expect.
Many Thanksxx
My son started off back to back, and my contractions were mostly like really bad back pain and were really difficult to time, but he actually turned during labour, so for your consultant to say yours won't turn is nonsense, and mine was 10lbs 2oz so size is no guarantee either. From what I was told, if bubba stays back to back the labour can take longer than normal, and the pain will stay mostly in your back rather than bump. I was only in labour for about 11 hours, and only back to back for about 3 of those.
H and LJ 2 weeks old!
Hi there. I had a back to back labour and it wasn't particularly painful in my back it just took aaaaaaaaaaaages! 36 hours from first contraction (at 10 mins apart) to her actually arriving. Apparently it took so long as she was turning around into the right position for birth. I'd heard horrendous things and was really scared but it was OK in the end (well as OK as it could be!)
Good luck!

Hi hun, I'm not sure if my DD turned during labour, but the first 12hours for me were fine, i seem to differ from others in that my contractions were not in my back, but all round my middle, similar to what i expect they're like for a normal position baby. within those 12hours i went to 5cm no problems.
It did get more difficult as soon as my waters went which is why i wonder if she turned, for me, my contractions were all through my body. Evie was bearing down far too soon, at say 6cm, and i dunno if it was her positioning which cause this but i'd assume so. So it was very very difficult not to push. so for me, the last 4cm was difficult but i had diamorphine which was a godsend and made it bareable, and the pushing part for me was fine, I know i was out of it on the drugs but i dont remember feeling any pain whilst pushing.
I'm sure you'll be fine hun, It couldn't have been too bad for me as I'm expecting number two in august lol.

My LO was born back to back. However he wasnt B2B until labour!!! (I had had growth scans so know) - so they can turn B2B also.
Mine wasnt painful as such until the pushing but like someone else said - it was looooooong 36 hours from my waters going.
Hi! My LO was on my right side, but then turned the wrong way during labour and was then back to back. Once he turned, b2b I really wanted to push, but my cervix wasn't ready and the MW said not to push as if I did it could cause my cervix to swell and I would need a c-section and that was really tough. I was on syntocin (sp??) at this point too, which increased the pain so I had an epidural (bliss!!). In the end I didn't progress beyond 9cms and had stayed the same for over 4 hours, so I ended up with a c-section anyway!
Good luck x
Hi Hun my LO was also back to back and did not turn. The pain I had was concentrated at the base of my spine. I went into labour at 11.00 am and my lo was born at 2:56 am. So an average length. I was worried like you about him being posterior but I can honestly say I loved my labour. Be prepared for back ache for a couple of weeks after labour but pain killers and a hot water bottle helps.
Things that helped during labour were:
My hubby rubbing the base of my spine during contractions (he massaged it so hard it was bruised, ha - worth it though as it takes the pain away)
Lucozade to keep your energy levels up
Lying on my side to deliver and during labour as it took some pressure off my back
Rocking on the birthing ball
Go to your happy place and ask you husband to count you through the contractions
I only used gas and air and thought it was terrible but my husband said I was off my head on it. So it must have done something.
One thing I will say is don't be upset about your progress during labour. I was assessed at 10:30pm and was only 1cm dilated, I was so upset as I didn't think I could take much more. The contractions were hitting the highest number on the monitor and I though I might have days left. 4 hours later I was told to start pushing. Remember what's at the end of it and you will be fine. I would genuinely do it all again right now and would not be worried if my next labour was back to back. I hope I have helped to reassure you.
Good luck xx
MY DD WAS FINE BEFORE LABOUR AND TURNED BACK TO BACK DURING IT! it really wasnt that bad and to be honest if i hadnt been told she was b2b i would never have known. my labour was longer than my first dd though by 2 hours.
hi I disagree with your consultant as both my girls turned from good position to being back to back during labour.
it was painful but i wouldnt have thought any more than anyone elses labour and i also had an unbarable urge to push from 5cms dilated which apparently is common with back to back labours. all my contractions were in my back once they turned b-2-b. but my labours were short compared to most at bioth being just under and just over 6 hours each and my girls were 8lb7.5oz (born at 39+3) and 8lb9oz born at 39+1
hi, ds was back to back and in my experience it was horrible. i was induced via drip so they kept me sat on the bed the whole time, all my contractiosn were focused around the base of my spine and the mws wouldn't let me move around with them so i couldn't find a good position thru the contractions and the only thing that helped was having OH press as hard as he could on the base of my spine (u know like when u've been wearing high heels and the ball of ur foot hurts and then if u press on it its sort of a relieving pain...it was like thta, although not sure that ????makes sense at all lol), and where i was sat on the bed his head as hitting the back of my pelvis/cocyx area, so basically eh wasn't going anywhere...after 10 hours on the drip, i was still only 2cm (which i was before the drip) he just couldn't make any head way as he was stuck at an angle, his heartrate started to decelerate so i ended up with an em c section....imo this could've been avoided had i been allowed to be mobile as he wld've been able to drop down and at least engage properly (he never got past 3/5, which i had been from 36 weeks, and this was at 40+6)...so my advice would be to try and keep as mobile as poss, gravity should then help to bring ur lo down, and hopefully turn.....i won't be too worried if my next is back to back, but i will be making sure i'm mobile enough to ease contractyions and help him into a good position...no sitting on the bed, no matter how much the mws protest! xx
My daughter turned B2B during labour as well. It did take ages (had em c-sec in the end due to failure to progress) but I suspect that was the induction process rather than her position. Hope all goes well x
Thanks for all the replies. MY last lo was induced via drip and my labour was 14 hours. Im being induced on sunday if nothing has happened by then i have been 2 cm dilated from 36 weeks and my cervix is soft and 100% effaced but still no baby. The consultant also said she didnt think i would need induced as i have had show etc. I have been monitored since 34 weeks re growth so i no it has only just turned in the past 2 weeks. The baby is now averaging 11lb and there isnt alot of fluid so thats why she doesnt think it will turn. Hopefully it does but i have been getting back spasms the past few weeks which make sense now.
Hopefully i go by myself as your induced labour sounded very like my last WOWbaby i was only allowed off bed for first few hours and had pethidine and gas and air. It seems if i go on my own it wont be half as bad as being induced so fingers are crossed but i seriously doubt i will.
Thanks again everyonexx
they say that cleaning the far side of the bath can help to get a back to back baby in to the right position; might not work but may be worth a go? fingers crossed u go before sunday, but if not just put ur foot down that u will be moving about (they can still monitor u, they can use those head clips thinsg, or even jsut allowing u to move on the bed with me they would only let me sit, an hour before it all ended i persuaded them to let me turn on my side and the pain almost dissappeared from my spine, but they let me stay like that for just 15minutes, grrr!)) because at the end of the day that will help u and lo xx
Daisy was B2B as well... IMO, it really wasn't that bad! I did 13 hours with just my TENs machine and relaxation / breathing techniques for pain relief.
I was pretty stuck on the bed as well because I was induced and that made it more difficult, but I did expect it to be sooooo much more painful than that!
Good luck!

I had a back to back labour but she was my first so i have nothing to compare it to  The pain was all in my back rather than bump.. sorry not much help really! I hope this one isnt back to back so i can compare lol.
32+1 xx
