    Sorry in advance....

Have been told baby is now back to back so was thinking of buying a Tens machine to help with pain if baby doesn't turn although would be interested in using it even if it does turn. Has anyone used them and would you recommend them (regardless of whether baby stays in this position or not!) Would rather buy than rent but dont want to spend the money if they're generally regarded as not much good.

    Thanks!!!

    Hi

I would definitely recommend one. I used the hospital one and it was brilliant for the first stage of labour. I will probably rent one for my next birth.

Get one! mine was a godsend! my labour was such a positive experience (not in a hippy dippy way or anything - I was induced so it was very clinical).

It wont take all the pain away (it's not a magic box!) but it definately dulls it a bit, and makes it easier to cope with. as long as you remember to press the buttons at the right times (you need to switch between boost and burst when you have a contraction - it wont work if it is just on boost constantly!) which is easier said than done when you are in labour!

It feels a it wired at first (kind of like bad pins and needles) but it's a lot better than the full on contractions, so stick with it. Maybe put it on your arm before labour - so you know what to expect.

I bought mine for about ??30, as it wasn't much dearer than renting, but make sure you get one for use in labour - as the bog standard ones dont have the 2 different settings.

    Good luck.

Hi hun, my baby was back to back and lying transvers right until the last 10 minutes where he turn head down instead of sideways and made his appearance. I used tens from very early on in labour ( contractions at abt 5 - 6 minutes apart from memory) and it really was a godsend. All my pain was in back and this seemed to help, if nothing else sorting out 'boosting' it on contraction distracted me so i would really recommend. I hired one from mothercare, think it was ??28 or something similar. Think you can try it out once you are past the 38 week mark but the key is putting it on early so you body gets time to build the endorphins or what ewver it is the tens produces to help combat pain. I would say as soon as your contractions are regularish in time apart and are more than mild good luck xx

I would recommend one too! I bought mine from Lloyds Pharmacy, it was ??29.99 and I couldn't have done without it! It was so close in price to hiring one that hubby and I figured it was so much easier just to buy it, then we didn't have to worry about deposits and returning it after the birth.
