Hi.. My son is 3 years old, and I asked the health visitor when he was 2 to check his 'balls' cos i couldnt feel his testicles in the sack.. and if i could it was cos i manually pushed them down from his groin area. She said they might still come down, and not to worry till he was 3.
He is now 3 and 2 months, and I asked her to check them again today, and she said he definitly needs refering to a specialist, with a view to an operation to pull them down!!
Im gutted, as you can imagine, I really dont want him to have to go through surgery, and i think he will also remember it in the future.
But now, after reading up about it on the internet, I hav now found that the op really should be done between the age of 1 and 2 and no later, or problems will occur.
1 problem is that his testicles will have problems producing sperm the longer you delay the operation. My heart has sank, and i just adore my son so much, and just dont know what to do.... God knows how long i will have to wait for an appointment, never mind the operation.
I was wondering if anyone else has a son who has had to have this operation, and how were they after the operation, and at what age was it done??
Thanks caz xxx
My son had an undecsended testicle from birth. He had his first operation to bring it halfway down at about a year old and the second op at 18 months to put it in the scrotum. These ops are quite common place it seems and not a lot to worry about. He is 13 now. The younger its done the better xx
My lo was 6mth when I realised his teste had disappeared (was def descended at birth and 6 week check) so we went to docs and they referred us to specialist. He was 2yr and 4mth old when they did an exploratory op to see what they could find. They found a mass of cells which was once a teste and removed it, so now he only has one testicle. It made me so upset, esp when they asked if we wanted to risk another op to 'tie' the other in place to avoid it twisting. This carries risks and he could lose it through an op. It hasn't been concluded that his first one twisted in the first place as he was never in pain and the doc said he would have been in agony had this occured.
My lo was fine during and after the op. After initial drowiness, he woke up saying he wanted chicken nuggets! So we went home the same day and he only has a tiny scar by his belly button and lower stomach.
I do worry about his future with only one but am told this won't affect his sperm.
I would go to your gp and ask to see a specialist as soon as poss. They are the only one who'll be able to determine where they are.
Good luck and try not to worry x
Thanks for telling me your experiences... i am scared for him, but know it needs to be sorted out.. soon.
Hes at the docs in the morning where hopefully he will get a referal for a specialist.
