my 7 month old daughter has suddenly started refusing her milk. she is still eating solids ok(maybe a little less than usual)and she will take water but she usually has 3 milk feeds a day. the first feed of the day was a breastfeed until a few day ago but now she has a bottle. she will take around 120 mls then. she then has a bottle at 2:30. she used to take around 200 mls then but now i'm lucky if i get 40 mls into her. then she has a bottle before bed, again this used to be 240 ml but now she'll only take about 30 mls willingly and if i fight her i can maybe get another 20 mls into her. i really don't want to fight her though as i don't want her to develop an issue around feeding. everyone goes on about how at this age they need at least 600mls a day and she is taking nowhere near this amount.
she doesn't have very big meals either so its not like she's getting too full on solids. not sure what i should do(if anything). she's been doing this for 4 days now. she's still sleeping through the night so it doesn't seem to have affected her sleep(yet).
has anyone experienced anything similar? am at my wits end

i was going to suggest maybe giving smaller amounts more frequently too like c&w's mummy.
i wouldnt worry too much about the amount, i think this is only a guide annywya, i may be wrong. Neither of mine ever took this amount either, but they do love yoghurts and cheese etc and they have milk on cereal so this all contributes to the amount per day.
you are right not to turn it into an issue. i would say if your daughter is still looking for more, she will ask for it.
sorry i couldnt be more help.
c&w's mummy, just wanted to say welcome to pp, hope you enjoy our chats on here. how many children do you have? im kas and mummy to niamh whos 3 and tara whos 16 months. are you having bad nights at the mo, i see you were on at 3.50am? look forward to chatting soon

thank you so much. will give more frequent feeds a try. am hoping its a phase she's going through. i was thinking that it might be her teeth that are affecting her cos she has been "teething" for months now but no teeth yet. very rosy cheeks though the past week or so, so maybe we might see some pearly whites soon.
in the meantime i am making sure she has yoghurts and i've been grating cheese into her meals and giving cottage cheese and fromage frais etc so think she should be ok calcium wise(i hope)

Hi - my son did this to me at around eight months or so and it was a major headache as he was massively underweight and had just been prescribed high energy SMA to try and up his calorie intake. I made sure that he had cereal with milk for breakfast and added milk to whatever foods of his that I could, giving him lots of diary foods as well. He was fine as I think that if he managed, most babies will. Try not to get too stressed about it in front of your baby, that could start a vicious circle around food being stressful, that happened to us and we are still trying to get Bon to eat comfortably. Every meal time is a battle ground and he turned four yesterday.
Good luck, if things are not going well, come on to the Lounge and post there, more people tend to look there and you'll get tons of support.
