Hi there, can anyone tell me at what age my little one should be sitting up on her own? My lo is 7 1/2 months and can not sit un supported on her own, but people and magazine etc are telling me that by now she should be sitting up or even crawling, and I am begining to worry, am I right to worry or should I just ignore what everyone is telling me?:\?

I think Millie was about the same age when she started sitting and about 9 1/2 months when she started crawling. She could stand up almost as soon as she was crawling but didn't walk until 15 months. They all get there at their own pace.

it depends on child, the averages are 6 months for sitting, 10 months for crawling and 13 months for walking, my daughter did all these bang on average, but then my eldest son didn't sit up until he was 7.5 months and then crawled a week later and hit the average with walking. by 8 months he could walk round the furniture, and climb!!!!!!!

lo will do it when shes ready, have you considered buying a bumbo seat as these get them in the right position for sitting, and they are contained so they wont fall over.

I'm sure she will sit unaided when she is good and ready. There is such a lot of difference between ages kids do things at - my friends's daughter has been sitting unaided since she was 5 months old, but my other friends son couldnt sit unaided at 10 months. They are both normal and happy babies, they just do things at their own pace.

    Hello there!

People (including in-laws and health visitors) do have a habit of telling what your baby should or shouldn't be doing at specific milestones - ignore them! Your LO is unique and will sit unaided when ready, and not when the books or other people say! Be patient, it will happen!
    .
I was told at 12 weeks that my LO was NOT teething.... I was then told at 4 months that he couldn't have a tooth cutting as it was too early - however, I assured the Health Visitor that she was wrong as he had cut 2 teeth!

Things will happen in good time! Enjoy your LO and all the milestones as they happen!

wow your lucky your l/o isnt in a hurry, my son crawled at 5 1/2 months and walked at 8 1/2 months. i felt like he was never a baby and went staright to being a toddler. i was determined that this one wouldnt be the same but she started to crawl 3 days ago at 5months and 9 days, she soon gonna be causing all sorts of trouble. lol. so be glad your l/o is staying put, for now, you will regret it when hes off.

I was worried about milestones and what not but it's amazing how different each baby is!
Kade is sitting up on his own lovely without support and he is just over 6 months but yet he isn't showing any signs of attempting to roll whatsoever. He also has no peggies coming through yet which a lot of other babba's I know his age are starting to show an appearance. Just shows they are all different.

My little boy was quite late at the whole sitting, walking, crawling malarky! Think he was nearly 9 months when he could confidently sit without falling, 11 months when he crawled (which was a commando crawl on his belly, never used hands n knees!) and 16 1/2 months when he finally walked. He's now a healthy, active, boisterous nearly 3 year old. I had all the same worries that you're having but your LO will do it in her own sweet time - they're all different and the ages quoted in mags and by HV are all averages. Don't worry - enjoy the peace before she's crawling and trashing your house!!

    Hi,
Dont get too concerned over this kind of thing, your baby is an individual & will do things in her own time!
My lo is 6months & can sit for a few seconds on her own before falling to 1 side.(but still cant roll herself over!!) Best way to help her strengthen her muscles to help her sit unaided is to sit her between your legs on the floor so then if she falls to one side your leg will support her. Dont worry hun!

there isnt really a right age although there are average milestones such as 4 months to roll, 6 months to sit, 9 months to crawl and 1 year to walk.
health visitors tend to say not to worry until about 10-12 months and every child is different and she will sit when she's ready.

my older boy could sit when he was 4 months but this baby has just started to sit and he's 7 months

I found the playnests that you get are very good as they support lo and protect them all the way round from falling and help to strengthen all the muscles. We got one for Maddie when she was about 6 months and she started to sit unaided a few weeks later, I think it also helped her gain the confidence to not lean back, she is now 7.5 months and sits very well but cannot crawl and has no teeth.
