After my previous post about Charlotte not sleeping thru the night, waking constantly etc I tried numerous things to resolve it.

Dreamfeed= she just kept waking when we tried to feed her as she sleeps on her front face down on the mattress (just like her daddy) so turning her over for bottle just woke her up. Plus she never took much so don't think she was hungry.

Control crying= would work but didn't stop her waking up again an hour later.

Ignoring her = just ended in her going ape & eventually crying so much she vomited.

Then one afternoon I had her in bed with us for a nap & I noticed she kept pulling the cover to her face so that night after the usual routine Charlotte fell to sleep easily as usual. She then woke at 1:30am and I handed her a large muslin, she pulled it to her face, rolled over and went straight back to sleep till 8:30am!!! The next day she woke at 5:30am but hubby just handed her the muslin& she was off again & today she never woke in the night & she slept till 8:30am again!!

How weird, the muslin seems to (currently) be the key. See what happens tonight but I'm chuffed if something so simple has resolved it!! Of course my mum is now worried she'll be a child who wants a security blanket!! Lol

Just thought I would say my LO will never sleep without her muslin scrunched up on her face. I too thought it was the strangest thing (she has done this since she was about 8 weeks) and then my husband pointed out that at both our scans and our 4D scan, she had her hands up in front of her face. And, when I was in labour, she had her hands in front of her face which was one of many reasons she was struggling to get out!
So I think it is definitely a comfort thing

I think my LO would be similar but im too scared to leave anything in his cot as he pulls them over his face. Is it safe to put a muslim in or a blankie? Ive been debating if to get one. xx

    Hi ladies,
Just GC to say my 5 yr old did this. People were forever stopping me when I was out with lo in the pushchair to take his blanket of his head. I'd get frowned out when I said I knew.
Nice to hear he wasn't a 'weird' baby!

PS lo's 5 now and no longer does it so don't be worried they'll do it forever! x

Now lambchop dont take this the wrong way but i think i love you for starting this post!! I have just got my 3 month old down for the first time in ages, left him awake and after reading this I handed him a blankie and 5 minutes later stuck my head in and he's out for the count holding his blankie!!! Will definitely be trying that again tomorrow night! Usually we're up and down at least 3 times trying to settle him, especially when he's been set down fully awake!!

Gabe was such a bad reflux baby we had muslins all the time & he just kind of adopted them as comfort blankets. He's 20 months now & calls them all 'cloth' and drags them around, takes them to bed with him etc. Its funny cos he never takes washing off the airer & radiators but if he sees a cloth there he will whip it off straight away as it's 'his'! Its very cute. xx

My daughter's exactly the same! Likes her eyes covered for daytime naps to help her to drop off and blanket over face when she wants to sleep in the pram. Good to see others do it too! Was advising someone to try this on my birth forum and thought I might sound like a bit of an odd ball!
