My dd is 18 wks old and is an extremely light sleeper. I have difficultly getting her to go to sleep night and day and when she does finally fall asleep she doesn't stay asleep for very long (30 - 45mins). I know there are no magic solutions and am perservering with putting her down for regular naps but I was wondering for those who have gone through this with their babies, does it get better? I'm not adverse to trying controlled crying as this worked with my son but he was always a very heavy sleeper so I knew once we'd gone through all that crying he would be asleep for a good few hours. So has anybody managed to get their light sleeping babies into good habits or should I just accept that she'll never be a good sleeper?

I've read that babies come into light sleep after 30-45 mins and need to learn to go through to the next sleep cycle without completely waking up. If it was me I would do the CC so she learns how to do it. It might mean a few awful nights but will be worth it in the long term.

Thanks for your advise girls. I'll definately give the white noise a go and if that doesn't help i'll go down the CC route once my OH has finished his stint of nightshifts. I'm not worried about it disturbing my son, he's nearly 6 and he still sleeps like a log lol!! I'm sure there is a light at the end of the tunnel just at 2 in the morning when you've already been up several times it just feels never ending! I'm sure i'll catch up on my sleep when she's 13 and I can't get her out of bed for anything!!!
