busy life here all of a sudden, house move back to mums, Lucie is in at everyyything between crawling and furniture walking, defo wants to just go but likewise no real balance. Millie is at school but just had half term so we had her and her friends a few times. I feel like life’s flying by. How are these babies already 9 months And more??
welcome to May babies Lixie! How have you found emigrating and bringing up a baby without family? my partner has been offered a transfer to New Zealand but I’m not really fussed with it cos it’s just as cold there as here haha! I’d much prefer Australia! I would go but he’s quite a Home boy. Being a nurse I can more or less transfer my skills around the world so it does help. Good luck finding childcare. Is it possible to work from home?
lucie is a great eater, will eat most things. We have moved onto just giving her what we eat mostly. Will sometimes eat it and sometimes will refuse so I always have EK pouches on stand by. For breakfast she has readybrek and fruit, then her bottle. Lunch is usually blended soup and bread or a sandwich and then nibbles. And dinner she seems to love fish, home made pizza went down well, roast dinners. She loves veg. She also likes snacks in between like yoghurts, fruit, EK crisps, biscuits etc. She’s quite the eater compared to her sister lol!
still not a single tooth!!! Haha. She’s currently got an awful cold again and not sleeping after a week of sleeping 7-6. Damn weather lol!
we also went and got measured for shoes but haven’t bought any yet! Hope they help her balance when I get a pair.
This was us at Tesco (in her sleepsuit cos I had to change her ha) eating a tuna sandwich! Who’d have thought?

Natalie, that is disgusting 😂 Harper didn't seem so bad this morning but gave me a sloppy went kiss yesterday and wiped her snot allover my cheek/lip 🤢
How is she eating all this stuff without teeth? Harper managed a few chips in maccy d's at the weekend but she still seems to struggle with the idea of biting if its not a finger. Do you just give her the pizza to much on? Lol

Oh she eats it without a problem 🤣 she sucks it and chomps it with her gums. Her teeth are right below the surface so her gums are really hard. She has just finished a boiled egg and toast now too 🙈 they say breastfeeding encourages them to eat better but I’m not sure, I think she just loves her grub.
her nose isn’t as bad today, that was at weekend, I went to take a picture for her daddy to show how unwell she was and she sneezed so it was one of the perfectly timed photos 🤢
she is currently sitting barking at the dog 🤣

Thank you for the welcome!
Harper is adorable! Fin was also born on May 16th. It's amazing that Harper has 7 teeth already!
The last 9 months were alright for us. We spent the first few months on my husband's family farm so we had a lot of help. The first three months was still so stressful though. I am a person that used to getting a full night's sleep (I never had insomnia or any sleep issues) and the new sleep routine with Fin drove me a bit crazy.
Fin finally started crawling forwards now after weeks of reversing... it was pretty funny. He's also pulling himself up now and trying to walk by holding on to things, though he really just falls on his butt.
It's been hit and miss getting him to eat food. Sometimes he's very happy to eat and just shoves it all in his mouth like it's an eating contest; sometimes he just doesn't care about eating and wants to do something else. Basically it's been difficult getting him to eat regular meals all the time so we kind of just try for a few minutes and then let him go off and play if he's not interested.
Glad to hear that Harper's settled in well at nursery! I'm hoping Fin could do the same and I can go back to work without stressing about how he's doing. I have a few daycare tours coming up this week and I have no idea what I'm doing (new city and I'm unfamiliar), but fingers crossed!
I'm still breastfeeding, too! And we wake up about 1-3 times a night, it really various. I'm not sure how to stop it either... but the child health nurse I've been seeing told me that as long as it's not affecting our sleep too much, then it's fine. And if I want help weaning later, I just have to go to the nurse to get a referral for some centre that we can go to. It's this program that they have in Australia here where me and the baby go stay in a facility for a week and they help us wean him off breast milk and they help with sleep training and all that. I'm not sure if you have something like that where you're at?
That's awesome that your mum will be looking after your baby boy. Such a relief to have someone you trust take care of them while you're at work!
I've also been looking into swimming lessons and Fin really loves going in the pool, so I think we'll be signing him up soon.
Lucie is so cute, even with snot and all!
Emigrating and having a baby without family and friends around is DEFINITELY DIFFICULT. I think it's one of the biggest strains on my marriage currently. We're both so stressed about being in a new city. We've moved around quite a bit (have lived in Vancouver, New York, Stamford, WA, all over the place!) before when it was just the two of us and we always did okay. We'd be there for each other.
But now that we have little Fin, we're both stretched too thin to really support each other like we were doing before. So it's definitely made things harder for us than it otherwise would have been. We're still trooping though.
I'm in IT. I've actually managed to wrangle a work from home istuation from my old boss, but he's made it clear that he can only let me do so until June--by then I will definitely have to go back into the office at least part time.
Getting Fin into daycare also became more important once I brought him out to play areas. Yesterday we were at a popular play area at the closest shopping mall. He really liked watching the bigger kids play and he was smiling at them, so I think he likes being social. The other part of it was that there was another kid (around 4?) who seemed very anti-social. She kept trying to stomp on Fin's hands while he was playing and when I asked her to play gently, she actually hawked up a huge spit and spat in Fin's face. I was so appalled and I looked around for the little girl's parent, but it didn't seem like anyone was watching her (all the other kids had a parent watching).
I know I'm making an assumption that the little girl who spat on him hasn't been around other kids in a monitored enviroment (daycare, or siblings at home with a parent watching), but that made me feel like Fin needs to go to daycare to socialise and learn how to behave around other kids under the supervision of professionals who can teach him how to play well with others.

Lixie, that sounds awful. Im not sure if id have been able to control myself if that had happened to Harper.
What area in IT are you? I'm a systems engineer so lots of virtual machines, networking and problem fixing. Great in one way because i have the opportunity to work from home whenever i want but not easy to stay focused staring at a screen after the occasional sleepless night. What got me was that she slept all night from bringing her home until Christmas morning, i started back at work jan 2nd and felt like id been hit by a bus; what with the lack of sleep (she slept for about 3 hours) and the new routine. We're getting into it now, but 5:30am is not pretty!
In the uk we dont really have great support. Ive seen my health visitor twice, the last time was at 8 weeks old!
How do you all get them to crawl? Im starting to feel like shes slightly behind with it. Shes just not bothered. I was crawling around on the floor for ages earlier and she just watched and started crying. We have our "10 month" review next week so I'll bring it up.

Lixie, how awful!!! I wouldn't be able to hold myself!!
Also what a great idea to have such a facility for cutting down breastfeeding!! Haven't heard anything similar in Scotland.
Blue, I wouldn't worry about the crawling. Mention it of course to the health visitor but I've heard several babies that don't crawl and just start walking. I remember I was encouraging Stephen to crawl by placing toys in some distance but don't think it helped. He did it when he figured it out on his own.
Forgot to mention that during one midnight breastfeeding session I fell on the cotbed side and cracked my rib. Lovely!

I was pretty angry but I didn’t want to yell at someone else’s kid and i couldn’t find the parent. Frustrating.
I was also worried that Fin wasn’t crawling properly. I took him to see a physio and she gave us exercises to do with him...but to be honest with you I barely ever did them.
He just started crawling forwards one day after coming back from a walk with his dad. I’m not sure how he did it. I think it’s just one of those things that either happens or doesn’t—I don’t think there’s anything you can do really unless Harper feels like doing it! Heh kind of like how she’s a champ at having all that teeth already.
I’m in software development myself. Specially SAAS. My current job though is in Operations as my old company needs some help with a few new processes.
hah! I got a sore neck from falling asleep in the cot during breastfeeding.

Hi all, been a while since I've been on here.
Welcome Lexie! I also live away from all my friends and family, we live in France. I have found some fellow mummy friends since having my little girl elodie but not the same age as her. It helps chatting to mums that have babies of a similar age, going through the milestones together.
Blue - Harper sounds as if she'll be one of those babies that goes straight to walking! We also have to do the sneaking to bed thing.. no idea when elodie will go into her own room, I think it will prob be once she starts sleeping through. Oh, after you said that about the teeth, another came through the very next day after the first one.
Natalie - Lucie knows soo many words for her age. Does being the second baby help? Elodie loves to babble but we only recognize dada and her new one ka for cat. That could be her first word actually as dada is still indiscriminate.
Navi- I'm still breastfeeding too, never expected to be for this long but it's easy and she started refusing bottles... although she bit me for the first time yesterday..
Élodie always has a leap in development when we visit the U.K, all that extra stimulation. So last week she pulled herself up for the first time. She had only been crawling properly a week so didn't expect it. She was busy chasing the cat, ka Ka when she spotted something she wanted and just pulled herself up :).

Sounds like all babies are doing so well. Cant believe Georgia will be 1 in 6 weeks as while she was due 6th May was born 5th April. She will be crawling in weeks so better get baby proofing think shes gonna be so on the go doesnt wanna be still at all. Still not much interest in food but not quite sitting yet think shes gonna crawl before that

Well we woke up at weekend with 1 tooth and with two bottom teeth yesterday. Finally lol!
How is everyone? I am finally in getting my hair done, having some me time. My hair hasn’t been dyed or cut since the week before Lucie was born! Longest ever in my life, I am normally every 6-8 weeks being so blonde 🙈 feels like to have some child free time but I’m already missing my wee cherub!
snows started here, again, feel like I’m so ready for summer!

Whoop! Finally Natalie! I’m still waiting for number 8. Her cheek is purple but she doesn’t seem to be suffering with it.
Weve just got back frim her developmental review. All fine at 74cm tall and 9.3kg, they aren't remotely bothered that she isn't crawling yet either.
27/02/2018 at 18:34
Elodie climbed out of her cot! She's only just started standing by herself.. I left her 5 mins and when I returned i thought she's quiet, looked in the cot and she was gone! I looked down and thankfully she was unharmed, crawling around on the floor. She must have slid off the bed rather than falling straight out the cot luckily. My partner has lowered the cot mattress to the bottom level so no repeats, at least not for a while anyway!

I need OUT! Haha, this weather has been awful. Its up to my knees at parts. Crazy! need to walk to gymnastics with Millie, had no school this week so she needs outside too lol.
hannah I remember first time Millie climbed out cot, she was around 11 months and had also ripped her nappy off so a little naked Baby walked past me and I was in shock (millie Walked by 10 months 🤦🏼♀️).
Aw no8 that’s fab! Lucies are the two bottom ones but are only a small part through, not right up yet. She seems confused by them haha.
we got Lucies first shoes on Saturday as we had a party. £48 🙄 but Mum paid half haha. They are adorable! I’ll attack a picture of her from party, she looked so grown up 😭 well apart from the dummy cos all the pics were late when she was tired.
I need to go get Lucie a new car seat. any suggestions where to start? I’d prefer isofix and reclining.
How have you all been in this weather? Has everyone had it?

Natalie, regarding the car seat, i have the Boston from Mothercare and its shit. It constantly gets trapped under the belt and its really difficult to tighten. Don't be fooled into the Isofix thing, unless you got a really expensive baby carrier, nothing will fit on the base. I think the joie 360 is compatible with certain bases but we tripped over on this. We bought the travel system because it was "iso fix compatible". When Harper got to about 4 months, i was starting to struggle with the carrier. After arguing with mothercare for about a week, i settled to the fact i would have to buy a seat that would fit her until shes about 4. Sorry for the rant, but it really annoyed me and id hate for someone else to go through it. the seat is at least forward and rear facing with a few reclining positions. Make sure you take your car wherever you go too. we first bought the Madrid because it was "compatible with most cars". I got it home and it didnt fit in either my corsa or hubby's qashqai. Hence the Boston. Keep an eye on toys r us because they have just gone into administration; sales sales sales 😆
It's still bloody cold down here, probably nice and warm for you scots 😂 nursery has been open regardless if the snow. Hubby's school shut so he reckons he's been "working" at home, which meant he was too busy to put washing on 🙄
03/03/2018 at 12:02
We have the isofix base for our current one and it’s so easy, click on click off 😂 fits in both our cars so I guess I assumed they all would 🙈 how naive. It came without travel system, which I’m going to sell cos we got the egg pram to test and I now much prefer it lol. Looks like a day will be spent car seat shopping lol. I did see a friend using the joie for mothercare one for her wee one. They only buy really expensive well researched stuff so I thought I’d check that out. They paid £500 for a high chair that gets covered in food so that gives you an idea of their habits 🤣 thanks for the input, it’s a mind field!!
we are up to 1 degree today so it’s almost ‘taps aff’ Weather up here 😂 we had no schools we’d onwards and it was hellish. Cos we are at mums 7 of us and the dog were Home practically constantly 🤦🏼♀️
On a nicer note, I have started ordered the girls summer stuff 😁 still not at work so been using the payment plans in the baby shops etc. Panache kids is a good one, can get their shoes and outfits and they always have a good sale too. You pay 20% deposit then have 8 weeks to pay the rest. I love the little girl rompers and dress/knicker combos 😍
