    Hi

As Adam is fast approaching 4 months, I have been reliably informed (by my Baby Sleep Answers book!) that it is time to move him on to a four hourly feeding routine. However, the book fails to tell me how best to go about doing this!

So...for those who have moved from a three hourly feeding routine to a four hourly one - how did you go about it? Did you go cold turkey, or move the feeds back gradually?

    Any advice much appreciated!!

Cath and Adam (still poorly :\()

I was BF and went cold turkey . Are you BF or FF? If FF add an extra oz to bottle and wait the extra hour. Obviously if lo is hungry before then give her the next with an extra oz. You are going from 8 bottles to 6 so should be able to increase the amount in the 6. If BF I would express some extra and freeze just in case for the first couple of days your body will be readjusting to producing more less frequently so best to have some on hand just in case. xx

My son has just turned 4months, and has 5 bottles a day, which still works out as roughly every 3hours. I'm not worried about getting him to go every 4hourly, because I know that he's hungry after about 3hours. He'll let me know when he's ready to go longer.

my LO gradulally went from 3-4 hours by himself, we didnt have set times but he usually fed 3 hourly, i would wait for him to tell me he was hungry which gradually got longer, i think books are naughty for saying by a certain age they should be doing x,y and z as each baby is different, it might be that your LO needs a few more weeks before he is ready to go longer between, having said that if you are FF you could offer another oz if he is draining the bottle, after getting to 4 hourly feeding we went back to 3 hourly as this is how we got LO to sleep though as we couldnt have fitted all his feeds in doing 4 hourly without waking him up x

    Thanks for all your replies!

Once he gets to four months, I'l see if he can last a bit longer before telling me hes hungry - if that means I feed him after 3 hours and five mins then so be it!
