How stupid is this, Gabe was born on 91st centile (9lb 1) and dropped to 75th, now at 10 weeks almost hes gone up to 91st so weighs over 14lbs but my hv says I need to be careful I'm not overfeeding him! (He on 5 8oz bottles of course I didn't tell her this...)Grrr! I'm going to take him back every week now and I hope he does gain more weight just so I can have a go if she starts about it. Grrrrr why are they so obsessed with babies weights, my boy is on the 91st centile for length and head circ too so he's not fat. x

I posted a thread on here last week about the HV saying Lily was in the 'danger zone' for her weight. She is on the 98th centile. I asked for her to be measured this week and she is just below the 98th for her height. She is coming up 6 months. Last week they told me to drop one of her bottles (she was on 5x 7oz). So I did. Saw a different hv this week and they want me to drop another one this week. They said as long as she gets a pint of milk a day plus food she will be fine. I've dropped the other bottle now so she is on 3 but I have decided i'm only going back if I need anything. I'm fed up of them keep telling me my baby is overweight. I dont give her any juice in her water or any rusks (because of the sugar) as a precaution but they are doing my head in keep saying she is too big. She'll burn it off when she starts crawling.
Plus her dad is 6' 6'' which I keep telling them but they just keep ignoring me. My old hv left and she was lovely.I wish she hadnt left.
    Sorry about the rant.
As long as your baby is healthy and happy, does it really matter what the chart says?

Oh they are so full of shit sometimes! 91st percentile on both height and weight sounds perfectly in proportion to me! Cole has gone up from just under 25th to just over 75th percentile in weight and the hv had twittered on to me about how they shouldn't go over 2 lines from their birth weight so last two times i've been arsed to go get him weighed I've measured him beforehand and he's on a higher percentile than weight (91st for height when I measured) and she didn't say a word about him going over the precious little line in the damn book!

And as for calling a baby obese... how rude!! Babies are supposed to be tubby and then burn off weight when they start crawling!

At least my hv is only patronising and I can ignore that!

Nathans on 75th centile at 13lb 9oz, he's 10 weeks and has 7oz every 4 hours (or 3 hours). The Dr saw him on Tues and said although he's a big boy he's "big all over" (my oh loved that quote lol) and is in proportion which is what matters.
How are you meant to feed a baby less, when there hungry they're hungry, I'd like to see them holding a sreaming baby for hours to try and drag out each feed.

Starting to get worried now lol. Barney is only just two weeks, I am having him weighed again tomorrow and I'll be suprised if he is much less than 11lb! Don't see what the problem is as long as they are in proportion, like Gabe, Barney is tall as well as big, if he weighed less he'd look skinny.

Argh, just ignore them! I think they just get bored and have to make up problems. In my opinion babies are meant to be chubby. And of they are tall and weigh a lot then it balances out. I think those graphs just make people paranoid and they don't take into account differences between breast and bottle feeding.

As for saying you lo is obese, that's a horrible thing to say and so not true judging by your pic.

Here they weigh every week (if you go, which I don't often cos it's hard work, haven't been for 3 weeks!) but they don't measure height or head circ to compare it with.

I'm sure most mums can tell if their baby is in proportion just by looking at them.

Tiger Lily, hope Gabe was okay with his jabs.

Hamish is on 91st centile for length too and at 13 weeks he wieghs 15 pound 5. I aksked HV and she says its ok because the charts are only based on average. My two friends who had baby boys the smae weeks as me also have big boys.

Im going to need to wean hamish soon as he is taking 5 8-9oz bottles in a day and i think he needs something more substantial so dont worry HV said it was ok for my wee boy and i donthave to see her again!

hi hun my dd mai was born on the 98.8th ? centile and stayed there shes not fat just had a big head start 10lb 110z but her length and head is all in proportion so like you i never got what the hv was on about i think they just on a mission to make any women feel like a toddler with a dolly compared to their alknowing selves! they went mental at my mum as my brother has never left the 25th centile and at 23 months only wears a size 3 nappy, they badgered her until she stopped bf saying it was her milk but formula never made any difference and he hit all his milestones he's just long and lean! in short i think they r pains in the ass with a serious power trip so dont pay any attention. i only go to the baby clinic for a natter n cup of tea lol xxx

I wouldnt worry about babies being 'overweight'. Its a graph, it means nothing.
Ollie was born on the 95th centile.... and then dropped to the 9th. He was bf so gained weight more slowly. The minute the HV said it could be classed as a 'failure to thrive' i never went back. I told her she could stick her failures. We did go back the other week to get him weight before he saw the doc, but he was dressed so i dint have to stay to listen to bull, and he weight a nice healthy 21lb 8. He isnt very tall tho (but taller than some children his age) and looks fine, he is very active as well, so I'm not worried.

He's never had a problem, has always been nicely proportioned (Except he has a really long body and short legs but thats just genetic ;\) ).

I didnt think you could honestly overfeed a baby?
