Hubby and I are going to take the plunge and go away for a few days with our, then, 12 week old daughter. We were thinking of somewhere accross the channel, either Northern France or Belgium. Has anyone else done this? How was the experience?
Ideally we will stay somewhere which is quite child friendly and where we can wander around the town quite comfortably with the buggy. She is mixed feeding, with all the daytime feeds being bottle. It would be good if we could stay somewhere where we could access a microwave so I don't have to take my bulky steriliser. Although we are going in our car so could take it.

I recently got back from Malta with my then 5 month old. It went really well. I used cold water steriliser bags cos we didnt have access to a microwave (stayed in a hotel - it wasnt our choice as we went for a wedding) and they were CRAP, leaked everywhere so my advice would be - don't buy them! It might be a good idea to take milton tablets and buy a cheap bucket or tupperware tub once you are over there. If you do end up with microwave access, apparently the Lindam micro steriliser bags are good.
I would suggest you take a baby sling as I wish wed taken ours!! Also dummies and lots of toys to keep her amused. Have fun x

We drove to Switzerland with a 13 week old baby. It was fine as he slept in the car most of the time. I recommend taking miltons and a tupperware box or bucket. I was exclusively bfeeding so I didn't have to worry about bottle and food but I did need to sterilise dummies. Taking a baby sling is a good idea so you can venture out to places that wouldn't be great for a buggy. The great thing about driving rather than flying is that you can take everything you need, things you might need and things you will probably not need but you take 'just in case'! France is very family friendly and at the end of the day you can always buy stuff if you forget anything. If you want to pack lightly (pretty much impossible with a small baby!) you could buy things like nappies out there.
Most of all don't worry - enjoy your holiday and take a good phrase book. I hope you and your family have a fantastic time together
