We hear so much about babies who do everything early but what about babies who do everything late! I find it such a worry sometimes that Gabe is 6 months and has never rolled and these days he doesn't even roll onto his side. He didn't master head control until really late and wasnt able to sit in a bumbo until 18 weeks....I must admit I feel so guilty cos I didnt know you were supposed to give babies tummy time until I read it on here, and it was too late cos Gabe HATES being on his tummy and will happily lie flat all day on his back. So these days I dont even bother, I just think he'll do it in his own time but it does upset me sometimes cos babies the same age are nearly crawling and in jumperoos etc, or rolling round the floor but Gabe is limited in what he can do...Did any other babies do things in their own time and turned out OK? I know I worry about this all the time! x

Of course you worry all the time, thats whatare job intails from now on!!!!! I dont have any experience as only have daisy and she has allways been active and strong, but i FIRMLY believe that these little monsters will do everything when they are ready. But if you are worried speak to your hv, he is only 6 months hon he has got loads of time. Daisy never liked being plonked on floor but did like lying on my lap and chest. This is the same thing gives strenght to their necks will Gabe do this? I wear a knecklace used to lie daisy on my chest and she would push up to play with knecklace. Try not to give up with tummy time although i know it is frustrating when they cry. Praps try some different toys. Balls are good to roll . Or they do this train thing in early learning that moves across floor. Pick him up as soon as he starts to get distressed though. Try not to worry x

Harri was quick in some stuff late in others. He comando crawled at 6 months 1 week but couldnt sit unaided til just after, then he crawled properly at about 7 and a half months. but has only just 2 weeks ago got his first tooth at 10 months,,,,babies born after him were getting teeth before him, consequently he is still on smooth food and hates lumps but likes finger food thank goodness!! Also im waiting for harris reflux to start getting better but its not happening yet. He will do everything in his own time hun....and it will all come at once too.......in the last 3 weeks harri has learnt to, wave, shake his head and clap but i know of other babies that have learnt all this much earlier! xxx

oh hun I always wonder exactly the same, why is there not more awareness that babies can be late and its normal too? Our Sophie just learned how to crawl at 10 1/2 months and ppl used to drive me crazy with all those question is she crawling is it normal that shes not did you take her to docs bla bla bla. Dont worry please , I know waiting for your baby to do something can be making you think is everything ok with him especially if other babies his age are rolling or crawling. The most important thing is that he is healthy and happy and one day when he does roll over or crawl my god its gonna feel so much more rewarding cause you waited so long. Keep your spirits up and maybe give him some tummy time even if he doesnt like it. Soph didnt like it too and used to cry but got used to it after a while, I think its one of the main things to help them learn. And also if you put him on his tummy and he doesnt like it at all maybe he will get determined enough to roll back on his back x

When he was tiny he used to spend lots of time sleeping on me tummy-to-tummy. But he won't do that anymore - not enough to look at, lol, and he headbutts me lol!
I have spoke to my HV before who just said give him lots of floor time which I do.
He was being quite active when we were in Malta and nearly rolling over on the bed we had there but now he isnt bothered cos he has all his toys to play with, he doesn't need to learn new stuff haha! Ive tried putting him on our bed and encouraging him to roll but he just looks at me and laughs lol

I can TOTALLY relate!!! Don't think you started tummy time too late some babies just HATE it - we always gave Max some tummy time and he ALWAYS hated it and still does really he will spend v short time on his tummy. He is now 11 months and he only JUST learnt to roll back to tummy when he was about 9.5 or 10 months and he is now sometimes able to roll tummy to back but not always - however he is not interested in rolling - he is not one of these babies who rolls over and over and over to get across a room it's just NOT his thing - he occasionally rolls! He is not interested in crawling AT ALL and some of his peers (born within a month or so) have been crawling for 3/4 months already. Max just wants to be up on his feet ALL THE TIME he walks just holding one hand now and I firmly believe he won't crawl and will go straight to walking.

Anyway - it is all worrying but they do all develop differently - some days I feel distraught with worry and other days I know to take a chill pill but I wish I could be chilled about it all the time! they will get there!!!! In their own sweet time!

    Hey,

My little man is 4 months and hates being on his tummy more than anything!!! He will scream after just a few seconds. I try almsot every day but it's not getting better.

Im not sure what age they start to roll on average but my lo has not shown any signs what so ever!!! I did ask my Mum as she had 2 boys and 3 girls, she siad the boys were very lazy compared to teh girls and did everything later expect for going on solids, they did that early.

When did you go to Malta? I was there recently been back a week now. also funny as my lo did a half roll and ended up on the floor!!! the only time he has ever rolled and hasn't since.

I wouldn't worry, i think its just boys

Kara is the same as Craftycharli's lo. She was prem though by 5 1/2 weeks. Hates her tummy so never crawls and has a fit if you try and put her on her tummy. She is 13 months and very rarely rolls and only really rolls on the bed. She loves walking though. She loves being on her feet. Needs help at the minute though and is also walking the furniture. My friend has twins who are 1 this month and no interest of being on their feet although they are crawling.

I wouldn't worry about Gabe not doing things yet. All babies are different and will do things when they are ready and not before.

Try not to stress. In all likelihood Gabe may well lie on his back thinking deep thoughts about the world and one day he will just stand up and walk across the room telling you everything he's thinking. Babies are incredibly clever and given he doesn't see you rolling about on your tummy, I bet he's watching you trying to work out the physics of you being upright. My cousin was a "late" starter. She didn't crawl or sit up until 11 months, and she walked two days later. It really worried my aunt and then two weeks before her first birthday it was like she had a check list to clear and just did it all in a matter of days. My sister was just lazy and refused to walk until 20 months, and now she cycles in marathons, so it didn't actually have anything to do with ability and strength. I say lazy not be directed at any one but my sister

Dont worry. He just laid back and chilling out.
Lauren did things a lot later than Nathan is but I never did anything different with either of them. Admittedly, she isnt the most sporty kid (got 2 left feet in most things! lol) but she has just been put in the Gifted and Talented group at school (proud mumy beaming away!). Nathan might be different and be less acedemic but more sporty. Who knows?
As long as they are happy (as babies and older) and healthy then we're doing everything right.
Its nice to hear people say about things that their Los did later though as we do tend to shout when they do something new but stay much quieter about what they dont do.

Ollie was ahead in some things, he crawled on time, but coulndt sit unaided till he was crawling...
he walked at 10 months, and I'd have swapped any of you for him just for one that wasnt about and into everything  (joking)
He's now walking a lot, and can almost walk a mile but he's so independant and can have a cracking tantrum..... especially if he doesnt get to go his own way.... or if you pick him up when he wants to be walking.....

He's def behind with his talking, which is frustrating, as he knows what he wants but cant say. They're 'supposed' to be able to say with meaning 6-8 recognisable words before they're 18 months, and he can just about say2 with meaning- more, and dada. god help him as between 18 -24 months they're 'supposed' to be able to say up to 20 recognisable words....

think it'll be about 2 1/2 before he's talking like that

Please try not to worry. I know it's hard though as I'm like that with Charlotte. She started to roll onto her side at 4 months but didn't roll onto her front a lot until about 6 months and at that age could sit unsupported for a few seconds. She's nearly 10 months now and is commando crawling. She will get up on her knees but not crawl on them and is showing no signs of trying to walk. When I put her on her feet against the sofa she plops down onto her bum.

My sister has 2 lo's. Her oldest now 3 was early at everything but her youngest who is 16 months has only been walking unaided for a couple of months and still wont talk much so they are sisters but very different in development.

I would try & persevere with the tummy time if you can. The more you do it the more he will learn to enjoy it. Charlotte hated it at first but now she loves being on her tummy, esp in the bath! Saviour this time though - I couldn't wait for Charlotte to crawl no she's everywhere & under my feet I wish she would be still for a while - lol!

It isn't a competition having a baby, and he'll do things when he's ready - probably all at once!

Try not to worry about it, Isaac hated being on his tummy and so I rarley tried to put him on the floor on his tummy, he loved his cuddles and did spend alot of time in a sling so I could get stuff done without him crying, he didnt crawl till he was 11 months and at 18 months has only just started walking, Gabe will do it when he is ready, and if like you say he hates being on his tumm he probably doesnt want to roll over. As long as he is happy and healthy then try not to worry and like joanne said, enjoy him being a baby becuase all to soo he will be tearing around your house and you will look back on these days and wonder why you ever worried. xx

Reading all your posts has put my mind at rest too - Bertie is 8.5months and has NO interest in moving at all!! He can roll but now seems to have got bored of that and just wriggles about on his back really - he loves sitting up though which he'll happily do for ages. I can't see him crawling or walking until he's way past his first birthday (which is good for mummy I suppose!) but I guess he might just surprise me one day! xx

jason's one of those babies who does some things early, some things late!!! lol

    7 months on the 15th n he's got 3 teeth
started rolling at 13 weeks which i'm told is early but is nowhere near crawling!!! n if he wants a toy he just whines till someone gives it to him!!! lol

but then we did pretty much have him on the floor since he was about 10/11weeks old n he never really got interested in the over head activity bars.

Just wait... Gabe will overtake everyone n be cruisin around by christmas!!! lol
