    hello all
not been on here for a while but there's only one place i go when i need help and that's you lovely ladies.
my son is 11weeks old and still doesn't sleep through the night. He has feeds every 4hours and we now have a bedtime routine where he has half a bottle at 630 then bath then bottle, sit in bouncer to play while we have t, then bed. At 8ish. He'll then be stirring for a feed at 11 and 3am but always wide awake at 5/6 although not always hungry. He only has 3naps in the day, 45mins morning and late afternoon and about 3 hours for his main sleep. Any help Or ideas would be so appreciated! X

Hi sweet, i think it's still very early for a baby to sleep through the night although some do, others don't until 6 months or more. If your baby is still drinking all his milk then it's too early to drop a feed. You could try giving him a bigger feed at 11 and see how he goes?

Also do you have a blackout blind? The early morning sun is really bright at the moment and could be waking him?

    xx

Ds2 is 8mnths tomorrow and he only slept through for the 1st time last night!
Although some babies sleep through from very early on unfortunately others don't! If he's still waking because he's hungry then I don't think doing anything different at bedtime will make much difference. I truly never thought I'd get another uninterrupted nights sleep again but it will happen!!

One of my boys was five monthe, the other was 7 months. They often still wake now (although not for food). Think it's prob more unusual than usual to sleep thru at 12 weeks.

12 weeks is early to be expecting baby to sleep through. I think you need to look at changing your day naps though. 45 mins isn't long enough

What I mean is babies wake naturally every 40 mins or so. A good sleeper gets themself back to sleep. Have you looked at gina fords contented baby? She tlks about sleep habits and is really informative. She's not all about cc lol!

Our lo is now 15 weeks, sometimes she'll sleep through, but more often than not she wakes for a feed somewhere during the night, despite a dream feed. As she's taking a full feed, and never at the same time, I suspect she's waking due to hunger.

Our eldest slept through from around 9 weeks. Every baby is different, and 12 weeks is still very early. There is a suggestion to try and increase the amount taken during the day so they sleep longer at night, but our lo will NOT take milk that she doesn't want, so there's no chance of that! It will happen in time, good luck with it all xx

My lo is just 9 months and you can count on one hand the number of nights she's slept through, I have to say its worked well for me, as a good night is a bonus and I havent got too used to it and then struggle when they have a bad night as some people I know have!

As others have said they are so so different, I believe the advice is to only really start sleep training from 4 months, so I guess the expectation is around then??

    Good luck

Like becks, LO is now 7 months and i too can count on one hand the amount of times she has *almost* slept through - got to about 4.30am from a 7.30 bed time. It will get there for you eventually xx

    For real?

<------- 10 months old and still not sleeping through and never has. A 12 week old baby still needs to be fed during the night. I'd settle yourself for a fair while without undesturbed sleep.

My LO dropped his 10pm feed at 2 months, then his 2am feed at 4 months (after solids were introduced) and his 5am feed was dropped at 7 months. Its very unusual for babies to sleep through at 12 weeks although it does happen. Its not something you should really be trying to 'force'. Babies need to be fed regularly at that age.

My lo is 16 weeks. She goes to bed about 8/8.30. She generally sleeps until between 4 & 5am, has a quick feed from me and then goes back to sleep until about 7.30/8am. Sometimes she wakes earlier and has a bit of a moan, I just put her dummy in and she's straight off back to sleep.

Her sleep pattern has been like this from about 8/9 weeks old. It all went to pot at 11/12 weeks while she was having a growth spurt but thankfully we're back on track now. She doesn't sleep as long as your lo through the day, generally has 3 naps of up to an hour, longer if we're out in the car or pram. She won't sleep for long at home.

Is his 11pm a dream feed? Is he breast or bottle fed? Maybe try and give a bigger feed at 11pm or increase all feeds by an ounce...that's what my health visitor suggested when Evie was having her growth spurt and not sleeping so well (if your lo is draining all bottles that is).

Like a lot of people have said you're lucky if your baby sleeps through at 3 months. I think most will take a while longer n we just have to grin and bear it! x

12 weeks is very ealy to be expecting a baby to sleep through... essentially ur expecting his tiny tummy to be full enough and last long enough to go 8+hours without food (or longer, depending on what ur classing as sleeping through)... i'm ebf my 25week old daughter and she's nowhere near sleeping through, she feeds every 2.5-3hours, day and night... don't forget the norm is for babies to feed regulalry, ff or bf, their tummies are too small to expect anything else jsut yet... our ds however slept through from 6weeks (11pm-6am) but i know we were very very very lucky!
