In this sort of weather (bright sun but not too hot) do you guys put suncream on your lo? I'm rubbish with suncream and only ever wear factor 8 cause i grew up in the tropics. I did ask the rubbish hv who's advice was to stay at home. good eh!

Also for those of you who's lo's have exczema - what type do you use?

I'm off to buy a hat or two soon.. cause I know that'll help but we do go camping in May and hopefully it'll be hot so i want to have something to put on Cole's skin. Also - is it best to put him in shorts and tshirt when hot and just slather the suncream on or keep him in long sleeved tops and trousers?

Scuse the bad wordings..... Cole is trying to stop me typing and pay him attention!!

What planet was your hv on????? Does she not realise that sometimes people have to go out!!!! lol

I always just lathered Amy in suncream when it was hot & let her wear shorts & t shirt type things coz I always thought she might have been too warm in anything long sleeved but I tried to keep her shaded when I could. Tescos do a baby suncream thats factor 50 & I always used it but she didnt suffer from exzema so I'm sorry I cant help there. I'll probably just do the same thing with zara this year

    Good luck

Oh I know.. she was lame. Fortunately my proper hv has reappeared. The other advice she gave was to 'stay in the shade' after I pointed out that going out for a walk was good for us. Going for a walk isn't that easy to stay in the shade! And now I've discovered that Cole likes the swings we will definately be going out most days to the park and there isn't any shade there!

Thats a lovely pic of Amy & Zara

Kia, when my eldest was a baby (she has dark skin as her grandad is from trinidad-looks like she has a lovely tan-witch!!!) i used to put her in loose shorts and t-shirts, def made her wear a sunhat and smothered her in suncream. As long as they are shaded for part of outings a little sun will not hurt as long as youre sensible.

Must find out about the eczema, as you know alfie has it too.

For the pushchairs, i know that boots does a uv shade that covers most prams/buggies and also keeps out the bugs!!!
    They cost around ??20.

UV shade sounds good.. I'm going to boots later so I'll take a look. I was also wondering about a parasol but they don't look like they are that good.

Well.. I'll be going to Boots when Cole wakes up. Little bugger never naps on his own in the daytime but I went to get him a clean tshirt before we went out and when I came down he'd fallen asleep on his changing mat! So of course I'm running round doing housework...honest!

Hi, apparantly i got told that you should not use suncream on a baby under 6 months which is not very helpfull especially if you have a baby in summer, i have always used nivea for children or johnsons suncream but my 3 year old has eczema and suncream really aggravates it so i use one called begaderm which you only have to apply every 6-8 hours, it doesnt stop it completely but it helps and it is the one my hv and dr recommended for her.

hayley - not helpful at all is it for summer babies! Where do you get the begaderm from? Only applying every 6-8 hours sounds good as lo isn't a big fan of being covered in cream! I don't fancy using johnsons cause I think that may have been what set my lo off with the exzema and i don't want to chance it.

Kia, Went to boots yesterday to buy one of those sunshades but realised it only went as far as maybe the double of a pushchair hood. Noticed in their catalogue that they have a uv shade that covers the whole pushchair/pram for ??30. ummmed and arghhed over it and decided to look on the net for something a little cheaper. Thank godness i did because went to a friends today and she came down with one and wondered if i wanted it. Woo hoo! Just saved some money!

They are good though. I used to look after her lo and you do get great piece of mind from it as it completely protects them from the sun. The parasols do my head in-you have to move them everytime you turn a corner and when the sun moves round! Nothing like hard work!

    Hope this helps

I used organic children sun cream on my 10 week old and my 3 year old yesterday. It was really hot and I've had enough of the Nivea sun kids cream I usually use as its so sticky on the skin and full of nasty chemicals. The new cream I am using seems to be easily absorbed and it does not smell either.

I think the suncream advice, is no!, is to get the message out that babies shouldnt be in the sun.
