    PM
Just wanted some advice regarding weaning.

My lo is 21 weeks old and exclusively breastfed, he is a hungry little boy and feeds every 2 hours in the day and usually every 3-4hours at night (STILL!!!). I felt like he was showing signs of being ready for weaning and decided to try him with some baby porridge. I have attempted to give him some for the last 4 days, trying different times of the day, and before or after a boob feed to see if this makes any difference. He refuses to open his mouth, so I've tried to give it to him on my finger and by giving him the spoon, which he puts in his mouth and just spits it all out or starts coughing.

I don't know whether this is normal as he is my first baby or if perhaps he doesn't like the porridge (have tried cow and gate creamy porridge and organix banana porridge mixed with breast milk) or maybe I'm wrong and he isn't ready!

Do I persevere with the porridge? Try some apple puree instead? Or leave it for a while and try again in a week or two?

Oooh, he was also tongue tied at birth, could this have anything to do with it?

Sorry if this all sounds really stupid but I'm a bit lost and don't know what to do for the best.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jo and Dylan x

my wee man is 22 weeks ans i started him on his solids last week. Have you tried opening your mouth and see if he copies. Andrew usually copies or try letting him hold a spoon of his own. I atarted him on baby rice miwed with milk and then tried the creamy porridge next.

We went straight to puree's as the boys are allergic to cows milk which seems to be in everything, and they have loved them. We have to play games to get them to eat but thats just getting them used to it. We have been giving them solids for 3 weeks now - and they are on 3 meals a day and like most things. (started at exactly 21 weeks)

The coughing is normal. The boys cough and gag when they are given something new. Its the bodies natural reaction so they dont eat anything they shouldnt. Their bodies arent used to anything that isnt liquid so the thicker consistency will make them gag at first. Have you tried making it runnier/thicker. They boys hate runny food but will eat it if they have to move it in their mouth to swallow it if you know what I mean.
