I was in next today and they've got some gorgeous summer clothes for boys, I was really pleased to see that alot of the shirts had yellows and bright pinks-they were so colourful and summery, a refreshing change from blue and beige! There was a lush little v-neck jumper in a soft pink colour, I was so tempted to buy it but chickened out. We've got a christening to go to in 2 weeks and I need to get lo an outfit for -I really want to get the jumper but don't want to be 'controversial' and have people assuming lo is a girl! I think I might buy a shirt I saw on h&m, it had bright cerise and turquoise, that and some White linen trousers.

What do you think? I should add that lo is nearly 13 months and very clearly a little boy, I don't think the colour of his clothes need to define his gender. My hubbie wears pinks and purples alot-he's a strapping 6ft and obviously very secure with his sexuality, he carries it off well but always gets ribbed by his mates, he doesn't care though! Xx

Yes, I would, depending on the shade. I'm not a big fan of baby pinks, but a dusty rose or something for a special occasion would look gorgeous, especially if paired with the right trousers.

By the time they are year, I think it is quite hard to mistake a child's sex, so it shouldn't make too much difference. If anyone gives you any grief, you can always point out that before the 1920s, pink was associated with boys (being a variation on red, the colour of anger and passion which were masculine emotions) and blue was associated with girls (being the colour of the Virgin Mary). :\)

Really?! I didn't know that , I wonder why it changed? Oh I don't know, I don't think I'm brave enough, maybe if hubbie wears a pink tie or something I might go for it -then he can take any stick! I might also see what the weathers doing, not that it makes much difference but if the suns out I think it'll look better. Oh who am I trying to kid, I know I won't buy it-I'm the same with clothes for myself, anything a bit different and I chicken out even if it looks lovely ! Xx

My little man is 23 months now (Ok so a toddler really!!) but I put him in pink! It looks lush! He is such a boy.

We've even got a top from next in bright pink saying 'tough enough to wear pink!'

I would say go for it,

P.bob, I have no idea why it changed. It may have something to do with marketing but by whom and for what I can't recall. Just one of those weird factoids that I have picked up in the course of my research.

Yeah I would - you can always "man it up" by putting a collared shirt underneath and have your LO wearing trousers. My husband wears pink ties and shirts with pink in them and I think it looks really snappy

I bought the set of t-shirts from Next that included a baby pink one. Now, whilst I love boys/men in pink it looked totally wrong on ds simply because at almost 9 months he is still a baldy and the mm of hair he does have is so fair he did look like a girl! I think once he has some hair on his bonce I'll be buying him more pink but until then I think I am just going to have to stick with the more masculine colours. Even then people still ask me if he is a boy or a girl!!! xx

I heard that on QI as well, Stephen Fry is just like a fountain of knowledge!!
I would dress a boy in pink as long as it actually looks boyish if that makes sense.

I would if I had a boy especially when they are old enough that there gender is clear. Although my little girl, 3 months, was dressed nearly all in pink the other day and someone still asked me if she was a boy or girl?

I did however get it wrong when talking to someone last week - but she did have her son with his hair in a ponytail on the top of his head, I know long hair can look cute on boys but it was a very 'girlie style' pony tail iyswim.

Yep. I figure that people ask me even if they are dressed head to toe in bright blue so what does it matter! lol! I have a pink polo shirt from H&M, although I must admit that Ryan looks better in it than Alfie (I know theyre identical but they arent to me! lol)

I would - although hubby would probably take it straight off him again but that's another matter. I've seen that T-shirt in Next, The Missus, but hubby wouldn't let me get it. I don't actually think my lo has the right colouring to wear pink, but if yours does then go for it. When I saw the subject line I had visions of a 'baby' boy in pink sleepsuits! But I think a shirt with some pink in it would look lovely.

When MIL was pregnant with hubby her sister was convinced he was a girl so knitted a whole wardrobe full of pink clothes, MIL didn't want to waste them so dressed him in them anyway.
She actually had social services come round to ask if she was happy with her boy and if she was feeling ok!
Times change though, I love hubby wearing pink!!

I think pink clothes for boys are fine

No I wouldn't. I don't dislike boys in pink, I think it's quite nice. However, my son is nearly 2 years old, but he gets mistaken for a girl loads as he's got long blonde hair...So we dress him in very boyish clothes - football tops, tracksuits & trainers!!! It doesnt really work though! xxx
