Breast & bottle feeding

I'm writing a one-page piece for July's issue of Practical Parenting about how to get started expressing, and I would love to hear from anyone who used either a manual or an electric pump.
How was/is the experience? What tips would you give other mums about to try the same thing? Is there a best time of day to do it, or a best technique for getting maximum results?
If you can spare a few seconds to drop me a line with your tips and experiences that would be fantastic - either reply to this thread or else please just email me on firstname.lastname@example.org

I used a manual hand pump, didnt really find a best time but it was a nice relief in the late evening for the night feed as a top up. I found putting a warm(wet)hand towl on the breast i was expressing from as it made it softer and easier to manage. Also getting to mimic the amount of suction a baby would and also the massage the breast helped milk flow, having an extra pair of hands was a great help to.
