Hi all
Just looking for some advice please.
LO is about 6 and a half months and I started weaning about 5 weeks ago. I breastfeed before each meal, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Recently he's not been too interested in Mummys milk and I wonder if he's weaning himself off? I give him a small top up with a bottle after hes eaten (although this hasn't affected how much he takes from me.) just to make sure he has enough.
Also, his first tooth has just cut through so I wonder if this has got anything to do with it.
I am really proud we've both made it this far, I just wonder if it's time I reclaimed my boobs and stopped worrying about it all.
What do you think?

Only you can decide if you want to reclaim your boobs! Millie did used to loose intrest if she was teething, I think that the pressure of sucking made her teeth hurt more so it could be that. They do also tend to get nosy at about that age and want to look what's going on instead of feeding so it might be worth trying feeding him somewhere quiet with less distractions. You've done really well to make it to 6 months and now he is on solids he won't need as much milk anyway so it's not the end of the world if you stop, as long as you are happy with your descision.

Hi there. Can I gatecrash? My LO is only 4 and a half months and she has been taking some baby rice for a week now. My concern is that when I give her milk after her rice she only stays on for 2/3 mins. She sucks vigorously then grumbles, comes off, and won't go back on again. In fact, her only long breastfeeds are when she is in bed with me and getting fed off to sleep. So I guess I'm interested in what you're going to do trackieann. Will you give formula milk if your LO doesn't want the boob? Mine has never accepted a bottle so I guess I'm going to have to go straight to a cup. To those who are a bit further on - how many times does your baby feed from the breast when he/she is having 3 meals a day?? and is it for short or long time?
Millie used to have milk first thing, then breakfast about an hour later, another feed at 10.30, lunch at about 12.30, another milk feed at 3.00 and then tea at 5.00 and a final feed at bedtime. As she got bigger she dropped the 10.30 feed first and then the 3.00 and then one day stopped completely. It might be worth trying the milk at different times to the solids to see if she takes more that way.
Hi
Its difficult isn't it because you can't measure the amount they are getting.
When I started weaning my lo I always gave a b/f first and then food and then a breastfeed after meals. My lo still feeds a fair amount so haven't really been to worried about the amonut of milk.I think they will take what they need as long as you offer it before meals and through out the day when they may want it.
Also don't forget that the older they get they become more efficient at taking the milk so that may be why they don't feed so long. Also remember that milk should still makes up most of their diet so don't fill tummys up with juice or anything.
I always thought of milk as the main part of my los diet and any food stuff at first really is just first tastes of things .
My lo is 10 months and feeds as an when through out the day I have never got into any strict routine with it.She feeds both sides first thing ,has a bit more before brekkie and a bit more after she has a b/f before naps and after and then tends to have a couple in the afternoon and then bedtime feed. Not sure I will ever get her off it as she has shown no signs of getting fed up with it bless her.
im having a similar problem with abby she is 7 months and 2 weeks and she is on 3 good meals a day she was having me in the morning on waking then breakfast then me at 11 then lunch at 12.30 then me at 4 then dinner at 5.30 then i give her a 7 oz bottle at bed when she slept 7.30 till 5ish but this last few weeks she has had 2 feeds during the night and only having a wee sook at her feed times during the day begining to think she doesn't want me any more !! looks like i will be getting my boobies back aswell not looking forward to it

Thanks for replies. I guess we just have to trust the babies. They're not going to starve themselves after all! One more little question - when did you ladies start introducing water with meals? Ella is still a bit young to take a cup I think.
Hi - my lo is now 8mths, for the last couple of months she has been having 3 feeds aday from me as well as 3 meals aday. She has her 1st feed about 6am in bed with me, about 1/2 hour after lunch then at bedtime. Her feeds from me are getting shorter, the morning and evening feed has gone down from approx 30mins to 15-20mins and occasionally she goes without the lunchtime feed. Because she takes less from me at lunchtime I give her water in a beaker with ther lunch.
I make sure she gets her milk in other ways, on cereal, yoghurts, cheese etc. Shes still gaining weight and is content in herself.
I took the lead from her and have trusted my instincts, I bottlefed my other 2 so its been a real learning curve!!
Sorry to waffle!

Hi Trackieann,
our lo's are about the same age, so I can appreciate how proud you are that you've bf up to now - I'm the same. If you think he's less interested and he will take a bottle then I would say do what you are happy with, if you want your body back then go for it. I'm having the opposite problem, lol, my little girl shows no signs of giving up mammy milk - even to the point that after full bf first thing, then breakfast, she is rooting around on her dad's jumper to see what she can get!! So looks like i'm keeping going for a bit yet. She still feeds from me about 5 times a day (inc dream feed).
Campbellly,
I would say give your lo all of her milk first, then top off with rice otherwise she will drop her milk too quickly. My little girl is on 3 meals a day, including protein for lunch (29 wks old) and still feeds about 5 times. Morning is a good bf, then she has breakfast of cereal, fruit and toast, then bf top up before nap. She now has say chicken casserole with juice for lunch followed by a yoghurt, but still has 5 mins bf before nap. Then has a full bf (about 1/2 hour) at 2.45pm. She has her tea of rice and veg at 5pm with some water from beaker, and a full bf at bedtime. She also has a bf at 10.30pm. I started her with a beaker at about 5 1/2 months as she would also not have a bottle.
Hope that helps.

What a hungry lot of babies we have!!.Its good to hear what all the other b/f babies are having.

I think I started my lo of with a sippy cup at about 5 1/2 to 6 months but you can get ones for 4 months plus so maybe just start thinking about it in the next few weeks. But they do still get a drink from us as well as milk so I wouldn't worry to much as breast milk should be mostly all they have at this stage.
