hi, i need some advise. i had my son but he and i were very ill. on top of all that my breast milk was infected with the klebsiella bacteria so my son couldnt have it. very disappointing!!
when i had my daughter i was desperate to breastfeed her, but i had no colostrum and it took 5 days for my milk to come in. unable to wait she went onto a bottle and wouldnt take to the breast when milk did come in. i am now expecting baby 3 and again am desperate to breastfeed. is there anythig i can do to help my first milk come through?? if not how can i make it easier, when my milk starts to come through, to get my baby to latch on??? i found it so frustrating last time i was in tears!!! plz help!!! thanks x
hi loving mummy,
i cant give you any definitive advice that means it will dfinitely work out, but i reckon if you are as determmined to succeed as you sound, you will get there! my dd1 wuldnt latch on til she was 2 days old and i almost gave up, so glad i didnt, had loads of probs but i fed her for 6 months. dd2 was completely different and was rooting for boob as soon as she was placed on my chest, she has fed amazingly and is now 6 1/2 months.
i think getting lo latched on as soon as you can after the birth will promote bf and then basically having loads of skin to skin. i put naked dd2 down my nightie in hosp and kept her there for hours on our first night and she fed for 4 hours! then when you get home, just go to bed, sod the visitors, stay in bed together just cuddling and feeding and this will encourage your milk to come in. my milk took 5 days both times, both girls lost about 9oz in weight but then put on once milk was in. dont worry about them starving for the first days, they wont, just keep feeding, you will have enough colostrum. it can be frustrating if you find it not going according to plan but try to be relaxed and go with what lo wants, dont analyse what theyre doing and i'm sure you'll be rewarded!
good luck xx Naomi
