Birthday

Well, I am being totally indulgent and telling you lot that today is my birthday.  I didn't get much to open, hubbie bought me something a few weeks back but is being a bit "if you want it, go buy it" rather than getting something he has to wrap!  I did get a very pretty bracelet from my brother-in-law and some money and a gift card for M&S from my MIL.  The M&S card is actually quite good as I am more likely to spend it on myself than the kids.  A John Lewis one and it would all have gone on them.  And my best friend bought me the BBC DVD of 'Persuasion' which I have watched already as it ranks joint No.1 for my fave love story with 'Pride and Prejudice'.

Tomorrow Bon is back at school and I am going to start weaning Catalina.  She has been ready for a few weeks I think, but I held off until we'd been away on holiday and got a very complicated wedding out of the way and also for Bon to be back at school so I can devote my attention solely on Catalina.  Bon had my complete attention and she deserves no less.  She is six months on Friday so only two days ahead of official schedule.  I know exactly the scrunched up face I will get with the first mouthful but I am now looking forward to it.  I am hoping to bypass bottles and go from breast to beaker but we'll see how cooperative she is.  Any advice on the best beakers to go for will be gratefully recieved.

I hope Bon goes back to school ok for you. Jack goes back on Thursday and he can't wait. Also good luck with weaning Catalina. Enjoy the mess .

With regards to beakers, i too bypassed the whole bottle stage as Hollie wouldnt close her mouth around the teat of a bottle so had no real choice. Anyway the beaker we used and are still using is this one:

I found it great because the teat is soft and so found Hollie prefered that better. It also has a removable valve, supposed to be for washing ease, but i found this great when she was first learning to use it. We removed it at first so she got the idea of driniking from it before having work out how to suck to get the water. It also has a wee lid which adds as another way to stop the cup leaking and therefore makes it doubly secure to prevent leaks when out and about. And another thing with this cup, not that i have used it as she only has water from it, is that it has measures on one side in fluid oz's and ml's.

Sounds like you've had a fab day.

 I've got a avent magic cup for Ciaran, we did try the Tommee Tipee bottle to cup trainer but he didn't like that the lid flipped off the spout and is either over the nose or pressing into the chin. I also use a doidy cup if we're staying in the house and he prefers this to the lidded cups (think it's because he can lap the water up like a cat).

 Hope i have such a fun day next week.
