Just a bit curious really. We picked Mia Poppy (Poppy being the middle name) & Ava Lily (again Lily is the middle name). Mia is pronounced Mea but we constantly get people reading it as Mya. Other then that we are really happy with the name we picked. I was FB yesterday & a girl from school has called her daughter Princess. At first I thought it was an affectionate term but that's actually her name.

My friend works for a directory enquiries number where you can call to ask a question & someone asked her to pick the name for her son. Crazy, leaving it to a stranger.

I wondered how people chose their childs name & if the name has caused any problems, either eccent or shortened or not thought of initials. If we'd called Mia, Poppy Mia instead her initials would have been PMT. I live in Hull & a lot of people use the first & middle name when they shout of their children. I don't quite get it.

We chose family names for middle names, think we're old fashioned!!! And Tom our first DS was the only thing we could agree on!!!! I chose Joseff just like that....still having the decate about number 3!!!! We never use their middle names, well sometimes If I shout at them!

A typical welsh thing is being known by your middle name,as apposed to first! Weird !

I'd have stuck with initials pmt for comedy value......as I mentioned in another post I'm not married and my surname is Jones(rare I realise) did think about Tom Jones for a giggle......then thought better of it!!!!!!

my eldest is jack anthony ward lambell.

jack- my mum and mil are called jacqueline

anthony- my father in law

ward- my grandads middle name.

the second one, is lola ellen grace lambell

lola- i just love the name, and it suits her perfectly, a bit unusual lol

ellen- is my middle name, my great grandmas, her grandmas and so on.

grace- i just liked it and wanted her to have 2 middle names like jack

the only issue weve had is someone pointing out lolas initials spell LEG without her surname and jacks JAW, not the end of the world

i have to admit i yell there first and middle names when theyre in trouble, there surname is rarely said,

jack copied me the other day and instead of lola ellen grace, he said lola eggle grey, i couldnt help laughing.

if jack had been a girl he would have been summer or emily, he was thomas until i was 30wks prg. if lola was a boy shed have been max alexander. andrew wanted emily, but i won and got lola!!

now i love the names, mia, freya, and my no.1 is lily

boys i love max, xander, alfie, joseph, saul, thomas (but thats my brothers name)

ds1 is Connor John Taylor Purdy

Connor-it was supposed to be Cian (which i picked cos i liked it!) but we changed our minds at the last minute!  6years on dp thinks that he looks more like a Liam i dunno either...

John-after my dad, as we wanted him to have a family name from my side seeing as he was going to be registered with his dad's surname.

Taylor-after Roger taylor from Queen-honestly not my idea...

dd is Caitlin Emma May Purdy

Caitlin-again we both liked it, and its also the gaelic version of Catherine which was my great grans name (or so im led to believe anyway).

Emma-it was second on the list of girls names that we liked so we gave her it.

May-after Brian May from Queen-can you see a theme here...

ds2 is Andrew Joseph Glenn Purdy

Andrew-after dp's grandad

Joseph-after my grandad

Glenn-after my friend who died 2yrs before he was born

Thankfully no more Queeny names, unless we have another baby-dp is determined that he wants a Freddie or a Mercury

Oh I wanted a Freddie but Darren says people would think Kruger, when I think Mercury.I did also think of Oscar, shortened to Ozzy, cos you just couldn't call your child Oswald like the man himself, but now there's a dog in Corrie called Ozzy, kind of lost its appeal.

My first is Harry,we named him after good king Harry,Henry V.Also partly because DH's Dad had a favourite brother called Harry, although neither of us met him and I never met DH's Dad,it was just another reason.Harry Potter seemed to take over the world since then so I do kind of regret it a little. His middle name is George,DH' s Dad's middle name.

Bridie was named after someone I met when I was 14.She was an Irish Romany gypsy and for years I wanted her life.I did grow up but the name stuck in my mind.Mary is her middle name, another name from DH's family. I should have said the two names together out loud a few times, cos it's a little too like Bloody Mary.I love the first name, should've given more thought to the middle one.

Erin was baby no name.We took lists into the hospital,Erin was DH's choice,I wanted Amelia. He said Amelia was too posh.At some point during labour apparently I agreed to his choice first, mine second,so a couple of days after birth agreed on that.I should have insisted, you should never decide based on what other people think.Regrets again, there's a lot of Erins who are 7 or thereabouts.

Arthur was after King Arthur,we'd reached the "don't care what you think, our baby ,our choice "point by then, and yes people didn't think we should but they got used to it.His middle name is Maximillian. My Great grandfather was Maximum,a Spanish variation we couldn't really use in English,my Nan was Maxine,so Maximillian was our choice. No regrets.

Arwen was after Lord of the Rings character Arwen, the elf princess. Her middle name is Guinevere, after King Arthur's queen. No regrets.

Matilda,I just liked the name. She was nearly Willow, but the children wanted Matilda because Willow was a class name at school and that would just be confusing, that was their reason.I also prefered Matilda and though DH initially hated it we ganged up and bullied him into submission. Her middle name is Rose because we really struggled to get one that would work, and settled on that the day we registered her..No regrets again,we had to ignore lots of people's negative comments but again not their business, and we like it,although I will concede it does sound like a name or a battleship.

Merlin was obviously after Merlin from good old British  folklore and legend. We'd wanted to call Arthur that but chickened out and in the end went for Arthur,so our next boy was Merlin from the minute he was a boy.His middle name was Pendragon right up until he was born, after Arthur Pendragon. Both names were completely secret,to the point of lying to everyone who even suspected we might, but once Merlin was born and we'd said it out loud we couldn't use Pendragon,it was just too wierd. We chose Richard for his middle name, after my Grandad, and after Richard 1st,another of our country's better kings. We use the name Pendragon at home, and I regret bowing to pressure a little, but do like Richard for the reasons we chose it.

hiya

My daughter is called Skye Grace

We chose Skye because we wanted something a bit a different but not too out there! lol Her middle name we just thought it sounded really nice together, then later found out my great grans name was Grace and so was my partners. quite bizarre really!

My son is called Eli Jack

My DB chose Eli, it was the only name he came out with. i didnt think it was too bad! lol. We do get people asking if we chose it because of Eli from Emmerdale! DB is a gamekeeper so Eli suits quite well! His middle name is Jack because it was the only name DB didnt really screw his nose up at! he said i could choose middle name as he chose the first then didnt like anything i wanted!

The only problem with Eli, is some people read it as Ellie which is rather annoying but im sure when he gets bigger he will soon tell people how it is!!

I think it will be rather difficult to find a name for number 3 when we fall PG again!!!!

Alice=I knew I was having a girl when I found out I was pregnant. I also always knew my first would be a girl and named after Alice in wonderland, the name I picked as a child (we read it to her when in my tummy also)

My little boy is called Zachary Malcolm -

We couldn't agree on a first name at all for a boy we went through the baby name book about 3 times but couldn't agree at all!!! I kept coming back to Zachary, Elijah or Noah but DH thought it was too biblical he really wanted Michael (his name) but i had to disagree as his dad's name is also Michael and he has cousins called Michael and his brother in law is also Michael.  I always had Malcolm as a middle name after my Dad's brother who died of cancer as a teenager and i never met.  But after many hours of difficult premature labour my choice of name won!!

He always gets Zchary Malcolm Garrett when he's naughty

ps - we have no regrets it is slightly unusual but not too frustratingly so.  we get the odd comment about it being religious and one mum at nursery insi sted on calling him Zachari which used to make him cross .

It is easily recognisable at school so he knows which item of clothing/bag/drawer etc is his.
