Hi all. I have read a few interesting articles in the press in the past few days about mums and families. The first said that 87% of people think that mums get tons of time to themselves to pamper themselves and 'lunch', yet 86% of mums questions said they never get time to themselves due to the pressures of work, looking after the children, looking after the house etc, so there is a huge discrepency there. I think this is due to people only seeing mums out and about when they are coping fine, and not seeing the struggle behind the scenes at home.

The other article was in the MoS yesterday, £26,000 pa is what it would cost to pay someone to do the work around the house and with the children that mums do. This includes a housekeeper, cook, cleaner, nanny, taxi driver etc. So next time hubbie reckons you don't contribute to the house, let him know what it would cost if you went on strike!

Hope you all had a lovely day yesterday and that your families continue to appreciate how great you all are!

Oh i like that.

Its true we dont always have the time to do what we would like, but i do have the odd day where i dont have anything to do but it means working extra hard to get the house in shape.

I think that mums with children under 5 have it hardest but really if they all older than 10 and At 11 I was doing my own washing and ironing and had to get my own meals and I'd really be given a right telling off if my bedroom was messy. I even had extra chores such as mowing the lawn and wiping the dishes.

Well by the time i was 15 and had an after school job i used to have to give my mum half for keep and she said it was teaching me the vale of money and getting me ready for having my own place to support.

Glad she did as it did open my eyes to renting and how to spend and save my money(thanks mumxx)

I have re-read what I have put and I sound like my mum! " You young-uns just don't have it tough enough, why - we were living in a cardboard box off the M6.."

I don't think we realise the wisdom that our parents spoke until we are grown up and have children ourselves. I certainly understand a huge amount more about my parents and also can relate to my child better by looking back at my childhood and realising that some things will not work and how to go about things differently. I will do some things the same as they did and some things I shall and do do very differently.

I have to say that I DO think that I am very lucky, as although I work long hours (considering this is supposed to be a part time job share with Hubby!!) Adam does so much around the house and with the kids. It means that we both appreciate how hard it is and how each other is feeling when one of us has had a tough day!!

It's not perfect, but it works for us!
