We weren't doing presents but turns out he bought me something. I wrangled to get a clue out of him as to what budget and he said £30 in the end. Don't know if he's just saying that so I don't go overboard, but now iv got to find a pressie for £30. He likes sweets, rugby, comedy, shooting, our springer spaniel, gym

ok what about a dvd of a stand up comedian, a retro sweet pack, and spend the other 10/15 quid on smellies etc?

How about a rugby biography? They're usually a good read as more rugby players will write about some of the off-the-field anecdotes.
If it's rugby union, then I can recommend Matt Dawson, Josh Lewsey and poss a few others x
